Oh, BTW, Telegraph, the command module Michael Collins flew while orbiting the Moon was named Columbia, not Challenger. Retards...

Sadly with the horrific effect the current economic crisis is having on the USA and the demands of conflict in Afghanistan expected to grow I suspect this argument is rather moot.

The economic crisis is very real. However, money invested in NASA stimulates technology and research that often results in spinoffs, economic development, and other benefits that greatly exceed NASA's budget. NASA is an investment in the future and in the economic strength of the nation.

Amen.

Afterall, the Enterprise isn't going to build herself... :)

If the US government wanted to go to the Moon, Mars, or even Pluto they could get it done. It amazed me that the US Airforce was spending $250 million dollars on each F-22 fighter and they have nearly 200 of them before President Obama and Sec. of Defense Gates pulled the plug on the program. This is just one weapon system.

Can you imagine what could be done in space if NASA had half of the money spent in Iraq or Afganistan?

Hear hear.

Just for the record NASA's annual budget is only about one third that of keeping the US military in Iraq. Just Iraq, that doesn't count Afghanistan.
