Neelix sounds like Netflix.

Guy Gardener

Fleet Admiral

Not only does it rhyme, but it's almost the same damn word.

Word association, substitution and emotional transference.

The word Neelix could be in our subconscious borrowing from all our happy trustworthy feelings and instincts attached tot he word and product Netflix.

Unless of course you've had a bad experience with netflix?

I can see that Neelix and Netflix rhyme and how they look very similar. But I don't think they sound very much alike. For one thing, there is no long e sound in Netflix.

Oh, and personally I never made the connection between the two. We never heard of Netflix here in Germany. :)

Don't have it in new Zealand either, but the yanks rave on about it like it's the second coming of Andy Kaufman.

Peeps could also have these untoward feelings that netflix is a creepy hedgehog paedophile, and have no idea why.

"Neeeeeeeeeeeeeetflix"? That sounds like neat-Flix.

odd.

Makes me think of neat-freak.

And freak brings me strainght back to Neelix at his worst.

For some reason, Neelix's name has always made me think of three things (none of them Netflix, but still):
Felix, as in Felix the Cat - a cartoon character (http://www.felixthecat.com/) that I never liked, even when I was a mindless 6-year-old but whose theme song I still know by heart. Not that I want to - there it is, trapped in my brain, tying up memory that I will probably need someday to remember my blood type or something.
Necco, as in Necco Wafers (http://www.necco.com/)
and
Prolix, meaning "tediously prolonged or tending to speak or write at great length."

The last kind of fits, now that I think about it. Gosh, but he was a chatty guy...

You people should be rather glad that you don't know how the names Tuvix and Wixiban sound to a German ear.

If Neelix is Fellix, then who is Neelix's magic bag?

Prolix sounds spot on.

The less I hear about Wixiban, the better.

Yes, but Neelix is relatively unknown compared tot he celebrity of Netflix, that almost everyone has been assaulted by netflis's pervasive advertising at one point or another, meanwhile too few people know what the hell Voyager is or was.

Hmm..they may sound similar..but didn't think they were the EXACT same word. :vulcan: I find that fascinating. Neelix may be a little annoying hedgehog, but he's Voyager's ole hedgehog! :) I liked him nontheless.
