Neelix Less Annoying?

During seasons 1-3 I found Neelix to be very annoying ... but then halfway through Season 4 I found him to be less annoying until the end. Does anyone agree with this or is he just annoying until the end?

I agree with that. Neelix became less annoying after Kes left. The jealous boyfriend thing TPTB had going for him in the early seasons sucked. He was still my least favorite character though.

I don't know, I thought he was more and less the same during the whole series.

As for the "jealous boyfriend" thing, it actually more and less ended after "Parturition" in season 2. The Kes-Neelix relationship was hardly mentioned at all after that episode.

I did find him annoying at first but less annoying later in the series. He wasn't so bad once he calmed down a little.

I found his nannying of Naomi the point where I started to like him when he went from hyper anxious space rat to family member. His morale officer thing seemed a transparent gimmick. Much as I loved Tuvok I liked the way Neelix stood up to him.

I never found him annoying but I did notice a slight change after season 3. They seemed to have incorporated the better qualities Kes had into him, making him a more rounded character.

He became more of a background character as the show went on and became much more likeable as a result. He became a better charcter after kes left.

Sleazy, ultra annoying, freeloading/Jealous weirdo-Neelix from the 1st couple of seasons evolved into the less cringe worthy nice guy Neelix we got later.

How was he freeloading if was willing to cook and work to earn his rite to stay onboard? He didn't ask to stay for free and not contribute.

The reason Neelix got lessannoying after season 3/after Kes left is because there was less of him due to all the attention on Seven. Its really nothing to do with Kes's influence or his character changing, there was just less of him :| imo.

You know ... that is a good point about Seven. Also, I wonder if he went through a depression period after Kes told him to chill .. and then leave.

Also, I just found him annoying as "moral officer" ... the way he presents himself would certainly annoy me.

Neelix had his moments for me, I loved the scene where Janeway tells him thta she's not dropping him off on the side of the road whenever they hit a bump. But the rivalary between him and Tom Paris for Kes I could have lived without. And the scenes between Tuvok and Neelix were just great.

Okay maybe freeloading is a strong word. But go back to the 1st episode, he clearly wants to be there because it is way more comfortable than what he is used to, not for any altruistic reasons.

And I would argue that the ship never needed a cook and hardly ever needed any kind of guide. And I say this as someone who grew to kind of like Neelix by the end of the show.

I was never sure if Neelix was in on the joke about Morale Officer, since he ran with that joke a bit too ably in the face of a whole dang load of grim.

I always thought Neelix was a woefully underused character with a lot of potential.

His best character moments were when he was playing up the aspects of his roguish past or the tragedies and hardships that led to it.

I never cared for much of his relationship with Kes, but that's because it was a relationship between teenagers for the most part. Kes wanted to rebel and see the universe and Neelix had a spaceship. Just wasn't meant to be. (and therefore hard to watch.)

One of the aspects I'm looking forward to in the next installments of the Voyager Relaunch is his possible return. Of course that's all guess work on my part.

I think anyone of us would choose living on Voyager rather then living in garbage.

Using Neelix to cook did save replicator energy to use instead for ship repair. So he really did serve a purpose, if just a small one.

Agreed to all of the above. Very much looking forward to possibly seeing him again in Unworthy.

I think his motivations in the beginning of the journey were purely selfish ones. He finally got Kes plus a comfortable ship to travel on. He started out making himself useful in order to be allowed to stay. Eventually though he started to care about the crew and that is when he became less annoying, imo.
