These have just cropped up recently, and with the way things have been going... maybe we could use a little laughter:

Anyone else have some to share?

The first is hilarious and cuts right through all the hand-wringing and jubilation going on. Everyone knows odd numbered Treks suck.

True... but then the "young actresses, early Star Trek uniforms" factor holds some sway doncha think?

^^Hey, to each his/her own :techman:.

I personally remember it being thoroughly enjoyable when I originally saw it in the theater, and have enjoyed in on tape/DVD a few times since then. But that's just me.

I thought the dialog was witty, the story was interesting, and Christopher Plummer was a great multi-faceted villian (but then again, I've always liked Christopher Plummer), and I love the idea that only Kirk could pull off this mission; i.e., "Only Nixon can go to China".

The bottom line is that TUC was a lot of fun. There are some good Star Trek films that have more going for them than simply being fun, but being "fun" is usually enough for me.

...and back on topic (sorry for straying...) I think that first comic is promoting the inaccurate notion that this film is "ALL" about Kirk, Spock and McCoy at the Academy. While obviously the Academy plays a part in this film, from what I gather I think this film will mostly take place after the Academy days of those characters (perhaps keying just a bit more on Kirk's Academy days.)

Having said that, it's still pretty damn funny, especially the "young actress" part -- I know that is a plus for me. Being married-with-child and in the midst of my mid-life crisis ;), I heartily approve of young actresses (Oh, who am I kidding...I've always approved of young actresses!)

yeah. I loved TUC. It and TWOK are my faves, and both were directed by a non-fan who didn't "know" Trek. Hm....
