Need help: Christmas gift for a 3 year old girl

Sans

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
My 3 year old niece has been playing with my old playmate starships and now she is wanting her own Enterprise that goes "pew-pew," but in pink. I know, but I'm not going say no to a three year old.

What I am needing is ideas. Best tips for repainting one, what would be a good paint scheme be, and where to get new decals. I don't want it to look gaudy.

Any ideas, thoughts would be welcome!

Thanks!

There are proper model paint that come in handy spray cans you can find in hobby stores, but if you use several light coats, regular hardware store rattlecans can do very nicely. I often use Krylon myself. I know there are home decor type spray paints that would carry the "girlier" spectrum...

If I were to go that route, I would probably paint it pink with purple accents. While you're buying paint, if you're in a store that sells toys, stroll down the pink aisle and get some girl toy inspiration.

For markings, if the Playmate toy you are repurposing is a similar scale to one of the popular kit scales (many are) I would recommend JT Graphics at: http://www.jt-graphics.com/ His webpage is infrequently updated, but he makes a good product. Browse his products and e-mail him if you find something. He also does custom work if you need it, but again, you'd have to e-mail him.

Good luck! Sounds like a fun project!

I'd recommend Krylon Fusion as your base coat. I got really good results using it to refurbish a thirty-year-old My Little Pony castle.
