Need cosplayhelp

Hello guys ^^
I don't know if I'm posting in the right section but I'm new here and this is my first post. Now, the reason why I'm here is that I want to make a Star Trek TOS female crew member cosplay. It's a suprice for my dad who is an addict of the Original Series. Normally I wasn't planning this because the convention is only two days and I already have two costumes but my dad is nagging my head off because the past convention he only met TNG members.

Keep in mind that I don't know a thing about all that Star Trek stuff. I do want my uniform red (because red suits me really good). So I want some info about what the color means and the ranks and such. The good news is that the second day of the convention I'm planning on doing Dark Moonkingdoms Queen Nehelenia and she has pointy ears and cat eyes. So, I'm gonna keep my make-up and put on my Star Trek uniform in the noon. Gonna look a bit like female version of Mr.Spock.

This is how Queen Nehelenia looks like, so I'll be wearing that make-up. I'm also gonna use the same wig for my uniform.:

- Where can I get my uniform?

The Star Fleet Technical Manual has actual patterns for the uniforms, as well as details regarding rank braid, equipment belts, etc. It's out of print, but you may be able to find a copy on ebay or somewhere.

You can also see here for a basic overview. Red was worn by engineering, communications, and security people.
