Need advice on pain killers

Anyone know what the strongest over the counter painkiller is in the U.S.? I am currently switching back and forth between Advil and extrastrength Tylenol and neither seems up to the job. It's for a sore on my foot that developed from a blister. It stings, ALOT.

That won't help...you need to wrap it up tight. I like Alieve for pain though.

Any product that contains ibuprofen or naproxen are the strongest you can but, but Jetfire is right you should drain the blister and apply some ointment and a bandage.

Truly. If the pain gets too bad they may have to amputate, depending on the fine print in the new health bill about approved treatments for chronic pain.

Just don't mix alcohol and Tylenol.. it can seriously do damage to your liver. Everyone thinks it harmless because of being OTC, but that combo can lead you to liver failure and need for a transplant without warning.

I find Aleve to be best for arthritis and joint pain but worthless for headaches. For what your describing a tropical ointment is best.. there aren't many OTC's like that but you could get creative and try something like Oragel (normally for numbing the mouth and gums) or Endure (for deadening nerves in other male appendages).

Aleve is some pretty good stuff but make sure you're not just masking symptoms to your own detriment. Pain is often there to tell us something is wrong and needs to be corrected.

Also if you do decide to take Aleve, check the dosage instructions. I think it's something like not more than 3 in any 24 hour period, so don't go chugging away with them.

I have a sore on my foot!

Give me the strongest painkillers you got!

Anyone see this as an example of one of the endemic problems with health care? It's not the health care that's the problem, it's the patients.

If it developed from a blister, it could be an open sore--which means you have to make sure you keep it nice and clean and covered. The cover alone should reduce a little bit of pain.

If there's discoloration that spreads, you've got yourself a nice infection. Try a little topical antibiotic after a good hot shower or foot-soak. Amazing what hot water with lots of soap can do to some injuries.

After you've tended to the injury, if it still hurts, try motrin. The only difference between OTC and prescription is the mg. That stuff helped reduce pain from some...rhoidal problems.

I agree.

They also make Neosporin with Pain Relief if you want a little something extra. I sliced open my finger the other day, and it really helped the pain.

Thanks for the advice. I have been keeping it clean, it's just smack-dab on the bottom of my foot where any walking aggravates it. I'll try the Motrin and a topical to go along with the bandaids.

OK, normally I am pretty thick skinned, but today you caught me in a bad mood.

You don't know me. You don't know my pain. STFU.

I find that for ordinary, run-of-the-mill pain (headaches, stomachaches, joint pain, whatever), ibuprofen works best for me. Tylenol (acetominophen) doesn't do jack shit.

A TROPICAL ointment? I hear the Amazonian Indians make some pretty good stuff from plants and frog venom. :)
