Need a new signature drink

Another really good one I had recently that they serve at Pusser's Landing in Annapolis is a Painkiller.

Shit, someone just mentioned a Pusser's Painkiller on the TrekBBS. Takes me back to high scho...I mean, sometime shortly after I turned 21.

Oh, and Alidar, I would also recommend the Dark & Stormy. :techman:

My own favourites tend to be simple: G&Ts for summer, Martinis for winter. Sometimes I'll go for a Tom Collins in summer or maybe a Negroni. If you want something slightly different, both the latter are pretty good.

Painkillers are better with Meyer's Dark Rum and were actually invented at a bar called the Soggy Dollar. Pusser's can take no credit although the drink does help them sell some rum. Oh, and it ain't a Painkiller without the nutmeg - freshly ground if you please. :)

While I've been known to drink a Painkiller or two (or three) while sailing the islands my cocktail of choice is a Gin & Tonic made with Hendrick's gin.

Gin and grapefruit soda is good as well. According to Wikipedia, it's particularly popular in Finland, for some reason.

The Finns use the gin to come down and stave off the DTs while flushing the vodka out of their systems.

edit: In the year-plus that I managed an Irish pub as part of a boutique hotel (the whole place was actually built in County Cork for the purpose of being dismantled, shipped overseas in containers, and then re-constructed by the same crew at its intended location, so it's about as Irish as it gets), I never heard of "Irish Car Bomb" being offensive, but there are obvious reasons why it would be, and I don't recall any of the Irish clientele actually ordering them. Car bombs are more of an American innovation, really.

As for Black & Tans, there's a saying that no self-respecting citizen of the Republic of Ireland will hear the words "black and tan" without spitting on the ground. The name comes from a militia sent by the British during the Irish battle for independence back in the 1920s, and this militia was infamous for its unrelenting cruelty. Essentially, the Black and Tans would murder Irish Republicans indiscriminately.

Honestly, though, it's water under the bridge. Ben & Jerry's has an ice cream named "Black & Tan," for heaven's sake, and every Irish pub in the United States -- and most of them in Ireland -- will serve a Black & Tan. It's basically an old wives' tale that has gained a ridiculous amount of credence.

Hah, well you learn something new everyday. All I know is I had a wonderful time in Annapolis while visiting the DC area. The painkiller and the crab cakes were yummy :)

Southern Comfort & Soda Water.

Or

Brandy & Soda Water.

Smirnoff Blueberry Vodka & Sprite with a lil Sour is great! :bolian:

Used to be mad about caipirinhas. Although cachaça isn't that cheap, it's well worth it, and the older the better:
1 lime
2 ounces of cachaça
Brown sugar to taste
Ice cubes
Delicious!

Let me know how it went if you do! I am currently teetotal, and so will enjoy my alcohol vicariously. :D

Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be a week or two before I'm allowed to drink again. No alcohol by doctor's orders.

I almost made Caipirhinas, but unfortunately didn't actually get the chance. I was making Mojitos, but ran out of limes before I got the chance. Probably something I'll try next time I'm at a bar.

Damn, I hate it when they do that!

Add some crushed strawberries in there if you like it fruity.

I love caipirinhas.

I never trust a man who doesn't.

Every so often, I pick a drink that, when I'm at a bar (and have money, so I'm not getting a Cuba Libre or something with rail vodka in it), I like to order. It's also a drink I like to make when I'm at home and recommend to others. Originally (in pre-bar days) it was Gin and Tonic. Then it was a White Russian. Then it became a Long Island Iced Tea, and then a Long Beach Iced Tea (less people have had them before, so they always appreciate the suggestion).

Unfortunately, I'm getting sick of ordering LITs (and LBTs). So now I need a new drink. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not opposed to something slightly girly, provided

I'm definitely a Makers on the rocks kind of guy. Also good may be an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan. If you like gin, order a Bombay Sapphire Martini, very dry, 3 olives. I enjoy all of these :)
