It might take a bit of searching to find it, but there was a thread a while back that had a list of all of the authors who did annotations for their books.

Haven't found the list yet, but I did find this amusing quest by Steve Mollmann to use draft documents and resurrect a lost set of annotations after a domain name lapsed:

Have you ever been inspired to seek out a quoted work and read it after seeing it in a book?

Definitely.

I was on a beachside vacation and took several Trek books with me. I think it rained a lot and I so read everything I had on hand. In a local second hand bookshop, I found Vonda McIntyre's "Dreamsnake" and "Fireflood and Other Stories" hitting on a shelf -- and loved them!

I am sure something I had read had a McIntyre quote in it that had intrigued me. Prior to that, I knew her work only from Trek novels.

Author's Notes as Promo Material?

I was rereading some S.C.E. books yesterday, and I noticed a couple of references to other Trek stories. Nothing uncommon about that, of course. They're nice little continuity Easter eggs for TrekLit fans. But why not use those references for more than that? Some authors offer extensive notes...

I read Shardik after Shardik made an appearance in Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series.

Fun fact: It's by the same author who wrote Watership Down, which I've never read.

I finished up The Art of Far Cry 6 and was still in the mood for another behind the scenes/art book, so I started The Art of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This is definitely going into more of the kind of detail I was hoping for with the Last of Us and Far Cry 6 books, so I guess maybe it all goes down to the difference between movie and video game Art of... books.

I read Shardik after Shardik made an appearance in Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series.

I read a lot of Larry Niven's "Known Space" universe of books and short stories after running out of new (and old) Trek novels in the early 80s, and suddenly realising that Niven's kzinti ("The Slave Weapon" episode of TAS) were a featured race in "Ringworld". Thoroughly enjoyed it! A few weeks later, by coincidence, the first paperback edition of "Ringworld Engineers" was published Down Under in 1982. As far as my Trek-aligned brain cared, it was just more Trek, with only a little fudging.

And that is as far as I've gotten with the Trek ones, because the PREY trilogy broke me. There are so many references to episodes and external material that I have never been able to finish the essay for the first one, and at this point it will require a complete reread when I have time someday!

I find that the best time to do annotations for a novel or story is when I'm proofreading its galleys. Sometimes thinking about things to comment on helps me catch errors or issues that need fixing.

What's the biggest change re-reading your own work has ever led you to make?

I can't think of any re-reading that made me do that stylistically. (Editorial feedback, yes. Re-reading, no.) However, I had to rewrite the subplot of one of the Precinct books after re-reading the prior ones and realizing that the original notion for the subplot contradicted something that happened in a prior book. (Which is why I re-read prior books before diving into a new one.....)
