NDB Radio welcomes Andrew Probert - 9/7/09

Probert's on the radio?! Awesome! I sure hope they show works of his I've never seen before.

Think about ... think about it ....

DELETED. A technical glitch on playback caused me to hear only part of the interview so it sounded incredibly truncated. My apologies.

He talked about meeting Ralph McQuarrie, talked about Syd Mead, about how he got into the business designing the "head of a robot" that turned out to be a Cylon when the original BSG was starting.

He talked about the cargo containers and designing the cargo bay of the TMP Enterprise and why and how it connects to the shuttlebay when originally it didn't.

He talked about designing the 1701-D bridge and how the makers of the show wanted a conference table at the back of the bridge, and how he thought that would be silly and his reasons why he thought that, and how it was then incorporated into the NX.

He talked about the 1701-D ready room and particulars like the bathroom and bed/couch and why it was there.

He talked about why the viewscreen in 1701-D bridge was designed by him to be so giant on Gene Roddenberry's orders and how the size of the bluescreen necessitated it to be reduced in size to make it work onscreen, and how he told the DP how to shoot it to make it seem like a hologram.

He talked about his ongoing 1701-C project.

He mentioned being on a star trek forum recently discussing something technical (I can't remember what exactly now), and I recall seeing him post something on trekbbs recently, so he could very well have meant this site.

He also tells a story about the first Back to the Future and how Marty was originally supposed to get power to get up to 88 MPH (not the lightening bolt).

Thanks Felix, we are far from perfect but I think the show went well last nite. Andy emailed me after the show even offered to come back in the chatroom to talk more to the listeners.

We covered a variety of subjects last nite. Roger and I have our questions and we do our best to include questions from the listeners in the chatroom and callers.

Did he get to talk at all?
Hardly. The interviewer asked him first about Back to the Future, then interrupted his story to talk about taking calls, and then got into a discussion about how the call taking worked, then asked a handful of questions about fan films and let it go. Terrible.

What are you going on about? I participated in the bloody thing, and it was GREAT!

Are you the evil DS9Sega from the Star Trek episode "Mirror-Mirror"?

You guys did a good job. I was in the chatroom, and had all my questions answered by Andy, and when things got bypasses, we were informed in the chat room that you guys would get to our questions, which you did.
We need more interviews with people like Andy.

Huh...I see what happened...somehow the feed went haywire and jumped over the bulk of the interview when it played here. Most peculiar. I rescind my previous assessment and have edited the messages above to reflect this mistake.

Nice interview, but the audio quality seems really poor, which isn't typical of many blogtalk stations.

Blogtalkradio does not provide the equipment to every program. Every program makes use of what they have available to them. The program will be making some major improvements over the next few months as the program has gone beyond what we originally expected it>

The recent addition (in the last 30 days) of MBL Enteraintment to our programming will be bringing stars from across the board onto the program. We will see people from Star Trek, Stargate, BSG, Babylon 5 and those are to just name a few.
