Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

It could be true. I don't think that Vance is who he says he is either. And he might be a traitor as well. I mean, you never know?

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Of course he's a traitor. The almighty Gibbs doesn't trust him, so of course he can't be working for good. :p

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Man...lots of hate in the NCIS thread. Not used to seeing this! But I guess it's pretty much all between about 3 posters....

Anyway, I like the Mossad stuff. That was...erm...sorta the point of bringing Ziva onto the show - to do Mossad stuff. Otherwise, they could have just stuck in another Kate-like person.

Besides, this show has been on a long time, and so they had to venture outside the boundries of plain 'ole boring criminal cases where a Marine gets killed - and gee whiz, who did it? Part of the problem with the CSI's is that they are BORING. Same formulatic shit every week. No real character development. No mixing it up with something new. Just the same crap over and over, watching them investigating crimes (not just crime SCENES) and sticking little viles of particles in the blender machine, shooting guns and comparing striations, and dusting for fingerprints 50 times an epside. YAWN!

Same with the L&Os. I mean, how many BILLION times do you have to watch the same exact formula, week after week for decades on end before you get tired of it?

The American Public never ceases to amaze me with their lack of desire for anything creative.

I don't mind the Mossad stuff...and I still think the character development on NCIS is the best of all the police procedurals. The humor is still there too. And those are the reasons why I watch the show. Not to watch the same thing over and over and over like a zombie, episode after episde.

This show still has a few tricks up it's sleeve. And it's about the only procedural that does. I'm still watching CSI: Miami on occasion (mainly for the scenery and a couple of characters I like reasonably well)...and I do watch Cold Case (love that show, in fact). But every single other CSI-verse and L&O show I gave up on long ago. It was more interesting watching grass grow.

But these characters on NCIS? I love them all, and find them endearing. And care about what happens to them. And for a procedural cop show, that is a good sign.

You should never leave a successful TV show for a movie career unless you ALREADY HAVE A MOVIE CAREER. Katherine Heigl could leave Grey's Anatomy. T.R. Knight should not.

But here's hoping they both do.

The only downside to these two leaving Grey's is that I'll have to go and find my Jeffrey Dean Morgan fix elsewhere....and Watchman sorta sucked.

I don't disagree with you - crime procedurals are broken because anyone who has a speaking role is immediately the murderer. It's true for the dozens of procedurals on the air right now.
I think my problem is that they've somehow made NCIS the most important American intelligence organization in the whole country. To the point where even the CIA is like the farm team for NCIS in this funky universe.

I'm not saying that NCIS doesn't do important work... I'm sure they do. But if you're going to go to the trouble of infiltrating a single American organization, you're going to skip the CIA, the FBI, the DEA, the ATF and numerous other agencies that probably have more pull domestically and probably internationally?

It's like the silly Star Trek problem, where if you're not on the Enterprise, you have the most boring/dangerous job in the universe. Either you just sit around empty space twiddling your thumbs or you get blown up just as Kirk or Picard opens hailing frequencies with you.

What makes this spy stuff even more preposterous is that now there's going to be a SECOND danger magnet team in LA. So suddenly there are two seperate terrorist threats - each as large and as immenent as the other.

For me, it's just a level of believability that's being stretched to the limit. I'm okay with Abby dressing like she does, even though I'm sure you'd be fired if you showed up like that for work at any real government office. It's part of her character, so fine. But now terrorists/Mossad/whomever are torturing Mossad agents in order to find out the terrible secrets at NCIS? Eh.

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Hey, don't be dissing the almighty power of NCIS. It allowed for the greenlighting of my show "Idaho Highway Patrol" where they fight terrorists domestically and abroad -- often butting heads with the CIA, FBI, NSA, Naicho, MI6, Russian FIS and the the local college frats -- and have a direct line to more than just their own country's president! :)

Damn... my idea was Iowa Dog Catchers. IDC. An elite organization of men and women who work with Mossad to track down terrorist animals in Afghanistan.

firehawk, didn't you know that the CIA and the FBI and all of them are just a cover? NCIS is America's only real intelligence agency. ;)

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

+1 "I like the Mossad stuff".

Decent season (Cloak and Murder 2.0 were the highlights for me). Decent finale. Excellent show. Who really gives a rat's ass about the cases anyway? I watch it to see these characters and how they interact with each other.

Oh, and NCIS: Los Angeles as the title for the spin-off? Ugh, terrible name.

You know what the absurd joke is though?

NCIS was so unimportant in the JAGverse that it was maybe mentioned on JAG once in a throwaway line - not counting the NCIS backdoor pilot. Back then they just had the JAGs do the forensic/crime scene investigation stuff themselves, because no one cared about this "DNA" stuff. :p
Hell, they even had a freaking JAG version of Abby who did all this computer hacking on his own... NCIS be damned!

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Ah, you really scared me with that title!

Anyway, NCIS rocks! :techman:

I really like the characters. They are great, almost as good as my Voyager favorites (and you know what that means, don't you?):)

I've watched every episode since they started to air it and I really like the series. As for the season final, I haven't seen it yet because of the scedule where I live. We're a bit after the US scedule, about mid-season here. Besides that, I will have to wait a while because the channel which airs it has announced a "summer break" for the series which will return in October!

But there are re-runs of the early seasons to watch and I'm happy to see that we will have an eight season of the series too.

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

I adore the series as well. I never knew what I was missing! I remember listening to the opening credits in the beginning and asking Mom: hey, what song is that from? It's beautiful. She said: it's the theme to NCIS. So I started watching it and fell in love with Michael Weatherly(DiNozzo). I call him "hot pants" occasionally cause he always wears the hottest jeans..*sigh*
Anyway, I don't get the hatred about the show as well. I don't particularly care for Vance but I don't ram it into the ground. But there's gonna be hatred everywhere you go but bigtime hatred online!

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

^^
I remember when I started watching NCIS.

I used to watch JAG which I thought was an OK series and then there was that episode when the NCIS crew showed up for the first time. I thought "those guys are great, I hope that they will show up in more episodes". Imagine my surprise and delight when the announcer said: "If you liked Gibbs and the NCIS team, then you should watch the new series NCIS whic starts next week". "That's great", I thought. So I did watch it the coming week and I've been a fan of the series since then.

It's one of those series where I really like all the characters.

I never watched JAG, but I'm not surprised that they played up the work the characters had to do to solve their cases.

Did I read right that Rabb and McKenzie actually went on undercover missions and such? Um...aren't they supposed to be lawyers? :wtf:

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

There are a lot of shows where characters do way more than they actually would in real life because their actual jobs would be boring on TV. CSI anyone?

There was some syndicated show in the 90s where top-of-the-line elite jet fighter pilots also did ground work as soldiers running around shooting people.

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Yeah, JAG got so ridiculous that I couldn't even watch it anymore. They went from lawyers to super secret spy agents as if it were normal.

That's not a big deal I guess. I mean, that's the premise of Chuck afterall. But it should at least be conceivable shouldn't it?

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Just wondering re: JAG, how often is it for lawyers to go fight in Afghanistan as Rabb and Mac did?

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

Well... Rabb was a fighter pilot after all. ;)

Re: NCIS: "The Death of Leroy Jethro Gibbs" 5/19 - Grading & Discussio

back to NCIS, did anyone notice that Gibbs once again has an empty basement?
