The state of Delaware legalized sports betting and, as expected, the NCAA banned them from hosting any post-season games. Now, in other cases, this would be annoying. However, since both major Delaware Universities are in I-AA for football, it means there's a playoff system. So, now, neither team can have a home playoff game.
The problem is that neither school had say in what the state did, and they're being punished, not the state. In addition, the state doesn't allow betting on Delaware teams, so this should have been a non-issue. But the thing that really bugs me is this. There are four states that allow sports betting, Delaware, Oregon, Montana, and Nevada. Only Delaware is receiving this penalty (the University of Montana is I-AA as well). Las Vegas, of course, lets you gamble on anything and they host a bowl game. Honestly, the amount of hypocrisy in this situation astounds me.
