Florida the team (with emphasis on its rugged defense) beat Oklahoma. Tim Tebow didn't beat Oklahoma by himself, contrary to popular opinion. That's nothing but fanatical bias. Bradford owes Tebow nothing. It's a regular season award and Bradford was the best quarterback/player. A national championship isn't enough? Tebow's that arrogant?

When the Fox announcers said that "your life would be better" for having "been in Tebow's presence" for a few minutes, I died laughing. Are they serious with that shit? Are they pushing for sainthood? Tebow really has his own media hype machine in place. They needed to go ahead and anoint him or give him a tootsie massage with holy oils. This is why people make fun of the east coast announcers. JM....come clean. You called the game for Fox, right? How about giving Florida's defense the credit it deserves instead? That's what won your game.

It was so hilarious. We had a breaking news announcement over the radio yesterday morning. The most perfect sounding Tom Brokaw reported that Tim Tebow has declared that he will skip his senior year and ascend directly into heaven.

And then Timothy Tebow was bathed in a brilliant white light and lo, he vanished

It was classic because that's how the announcers talk about Tebow, like he's some sort of demi god instead of just being a great football player. I think the sports animal paid for the spot.

Tebow Skips Senior Season, Ascends Directly Into Heaven
MIAMI (SP) --
Shortly after leading the Florida Gators to a national 
championship with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma, junior quarterback Tim 
Tebow announced that he would skip his senior season and ascend 
directly into heaven.



Tebow entered the press room to wild applause. A reporter for a 24-
hour cable sports network burst into tears when the 2007 Heisman 
winner entered the room. Another threw a pair of boxer shorts on the 
podium. Tebow smiled at the gesture and several sports reporters 
fainted.

"Sorry I'm late," Tebow began. "There was a six-year-old boy with 
cancer in row 54 and I had to make my way through the crowd to heal 
him."

"I want to start by saying that playing quarterback for the University of Florida, winning two national championships, has been a great honor. There has been some speculation about my future and I want to clear that up right now," he continued.

"Don't go, Tim!" a reporter shouted from the back of the room.

"After much consideration, I have decided to skip my senior season at the University of Florida and ascend directly into Heaven," Tebow announced. Upon making the announcement, Tebow was bathed in a blinding white light and vanished.

In response to the news, ESPN announced they will have a month-long tribute to Tebow. ESPN2 will now be known as ESPN-TEBOW and will feature Tebow highlights (including home videos of Tebow's childhood), re-airings of past interviews, Tebow-centric analysis by ESPN air personalities, a Tebow quiz show and a reality show to find the "most Tebow-like" person in America.

"He wasn't just the greatest player in college football history," said a college football writer at the press conference, tears streaming down his face. "He might have been the greatest person to ever walk on earth."

The announcers did overdo it, no doubt about that. But that's where the criticism lies, not with Tebow. He's as much of a "team guy" as ever there's been. The Gators won as a team, for certain. Just as Oklahoma did in getting to the championship game itself.

Oh man, I don't think Tebow does much to bring this on himself. I don't see him saying how wonderful he is, but you are right, the announcers were completely over the top. They compared him to Ghandi, they said your life is better. It is just sick, I don't think, at least I hope that his family doesn't appreciate.

That's the spot, DaleC76. I almost drove off the road when I heard it; I was laughing so hard I started having a coughing spasm. It's so funny because it's so spot on.

You think? Like Augustus said, they compared him to Ghandi. GHANDI. It was beyond ridiculous. There aren't words. Tim Tebow is not the second coming of Mahatma Ghandi because he leads a football team. If I were him I'd be embarrassed about that shit. I certainly hope he doesn't encourage it. If he does, his ego must be bigger than the population of India per square mile.

Those announcers made fools of themselves. My buddy Drew started making jokes about the anointed butt cheeks of his holiness Tim Tebow when we watched. Considering that Drew was the lone Florida fan in the room, I find that significant. He says Tebow must be a real tool to let that drivel go on about him in the media.

That certainly wasn't the opinion of most casting their first-place votes. Talk about backing into an award. "Wow...most everyone thought I was second-best. I'd like to thank the Academy..."

In other words ... in a straight vote, Tebow wins the Heisman.

The fact that he isn't quite the quarterback, but is unquestionably the better player, was on display all night.

By the way ... if you take a look back in this thread, you'll see where I predicted Bradford's Heisman, agreed that he's the best quarterback ... but laughed at the idea that he's the best football player, because it's patently obvious he isn't. I also mentioned that Oklahoma had seen nothing like Florida's defense, playing with those other juggernauts in the Big 12—you know, the ones that got bitch-slapped by Ole Miss, outplayed by Ohio State, and handled in every important game they played including by the Quack Attack?

Of course, it's not as if I'm never wrong. After all, I had Texas Tech number one for a week or two. Silly me.

[Honestly, though, I can't wait to see Oklahoma State next year. They've got a chance to do some real damage, if they learn how to win the big game. They've got the horses: Do they have the heart?

In addition, I thought Oklahoma played very hard. They didn't panic after failing to light up UF. Instead, they dug in and dug deep, proving to be quite a formidable adversary. It could well have gone the other way.]

Oh come on..... you're overreacting, Dorian. If I didn't know better I'd say it was due to jealousy because Tebow led the Gators over the Sooners last Thursday. No I don't really think you are feeling that way, but it could be interpreted that way. Blame the announcers all you want, they probably deserve it and more. But I'm finding it rather far-fetched to assume Tebow's encouraging it.

Just because I root for the Sooners out of conference loyalty doesn't mean I won't wager on who I think will win the game when it gets down to nitty gritty time. I thought about it and thought about it, then I decided to make some money when I considered all factors, the most significant being Florida's defense. Oklahoma played a hell of a game. It just didn't fall for them.

However, I must maintain that when the game announcers compare the quarterback to Mohatma Ghandi who inspired the liberation of India through the use of non violence--I'm not the one with the perception problem. Perhaps all I need is to be in the presence of his holiness the Tebow and then my attitude will improve. The Fox announcers said so. Come on Neroon, you have to admit that bit about improving lives by being in his presence was just priceless. Making fun of that is not overreacting.

Yes, Oklahoma State will have the goods next year. Will they get the job done? We shall see, JM. We shall see.

No, of course it isn't. But ridiculing Tebow for what the announcers said about him is overreacting.

I am not accusing you or even your Gator-fan friend of doing it. However I'm seeing in a variety of blogs and places ridiculous things about him. It bugs me not because I am some fan of Tebow's. It bothers me because from what I have read and heard, Tebow is a good kid who shouldn't be ridiculed because a couple of yahoo announcers had diarrhea of the mouth, albeit well-intentioned.

Oh it's probably unfair to blame Tebow, I admit that, but in this internet, celebrity mongering you tube age, some folks are naturally going to wonder about him if they watched the game and the announcers' slightly over the top praise was their first introduction to Tebow. It would be natural to think, "WHA-AT?" after the Ghandi line. "Who is this kid?" and whatnot.

Oh my buddy Drew is a riot to watch football with. He came up with much cleverer quips than the anointed butt cheeks of his holiness that aren't fit to post in mixed company. He's really more of a Florida State than a Florida fan to be honest. Maybe that's why he's more in love with a state football team than with Tebow himself. If I didn't know better I'd think he wrote the bit about Tebow foregoing his senior year to ascend into heaven.

Bradford deserved the award, regardless of the BCSCG.

Player A: Passing: 4,464 YDS | 48 TD | 6 INT | 68.3 CMP% | Rushing: 5 TD |11-1, loss to Texas
Player B: Passing: 2,515 YDS | 28 TD | 2 INT | 64.9 CMP% | Rushing: 564 YDS | 12 TD | 12-1, loss to Ole Miss

Both were worthy choices, but without knowing player B was named 'Tim Tebow' there wouldn't be much controversy in choosing player A.

Tebow had the better BCSCG, but it's not like Bradford stunk the joint up. Besides, Eli Manning outplayed Tom Brady in Super Bowl XLII - does that mean Brady should give up his NFL MVP award?

No doubt many voters penalized Tebow because he won the award before, but Bradford was a deserving winner, and McCoy would have been, too.

Remembering that the Heisman was given before the BCSCG, Bradford seems to have had the better season. What did Tebow do that was so great that it overcomes Bradford's numbers?

It's not just a question of numbers. This year in particular there was focus placed upon the less tangible characteristic of leadership, and Tebow displayed that in exremely demonstrative ways.

Because when Tebow couldn't beat you with his arm, he did so with his legs. If both of those failed, he overcame you with an act of will.

Statistically, against the olé defenses of the Big 12, Bradford had superior productivity.

I never bought into this "Heisman is a regular season award" BS. It's one of the reasons so often the award looks misapplied after the bowl season. [Two words for you: Troy Smith.] Oklahoma, under Bradford's leadership, lost its two biggest games by ten points or more this season. Florida, with Tebow at the helm, won both ... and did so after Tebow bascially pulled something of a Joe Namath, with ten games left to play.

The country's greatest player, with a team full of the nation's elite backing him up, finds a way to win when it really counts. Tebow challenged himself and everyone around him, then refused to let them fall. Bradford failed to do this. He just ain't the best.

Technically, the Heisman can't be considered anything other than a regular season award, because of when it is awarded. There'd be more of a problem if it were awarded a month later and the voters were told to consider only the regular season. Move the award to a month later and you have a case.

And since it's abundantly obvious that we cannot be certain of the country's best player until after the bowls are contested, the Heisman is awarded prematurely.

This year, perhaps. Usually there is a pretty clear result in the final tally. Obviously with Tebow getting more #1 votes than Bradford, there was a solid difference of opinion this time around, but that is a rarity I think.

I'm still not in favor of moving it, though. To me... it serves better to keep it as a regular seaosn award, without taking post-season into account. I like the idea of everyone having relatively the same amount of opportunities. Of course, the proliferation of bowls tends to skew that, as does the landscape of college football itself with its commercialization.

I think people forget that Tim Tebow didn't play well in the NC game and almost cost his team the game.

If it weren't for great defensive play and the real MVP, Percy Harvin, the Gators would have lost.
