NCAA Football 2008 Discussion - It All Starts Here.

Oh, and ... after UW's near-loss to Cal-Poly—a victory that required the Mustangs to miss not one or even two, but three extra points—I officially claim victory in the "Penn State over Wisconsin in Madison was a quality win" debate. It was nothing of the sort. The Badgers suck.

I can't believe Minnesota lost 55-0 at home against Iowa. They managed quite a collapse this season: From 7-1 (and ranked in the top 25) to 7-5 and bound for the dreaded Motor City Bowl. It's an improvement over last season, but once again, I'm left feeling disappointed.

On the plus side, it was their last game at the Metrodome.

Let it go, dude.

And now for something less controversial... ;)....FSU's Myron Rolle named Rhodes Scholar. That is one bright kid. And yes he made it to teh MSU/Maryland game in time to play in the second half.

I had my say above. You're the one who drew attention to it again.

In short: Mind your own business, dude.

Now we may move on.

Should he have been flown in especially to play, I wonder? Granted, it's really no skin off the NCAA's nose, but ... isn't that a bit of favoritism shown to a lad who projects the image they like? I'm an FSU fan and glad he was there, but ... it's something to consider. Would someone just as fervent in their devotion to athletics and academics but less accomplished at both been afforded special dispensation/privileges? I'm sure there have been B- students with conflicting commitments who had to decide which was of greater importance. That's often part of adulthood: Prioritizing.

Granted, I'm probably reading way too much into this. It was nice that they gave him a break.

Oregon/Oregon State is on the schedule for tomorrow with Oregon State playing for a chance to go to the Rose Bowl. Even though I'm an Oregon fan I'm picking Oregon State, they seem to be peaking at just the right time and Lord knows they're fired up about a chance to play in the Rose Bowl.

Oddly enough, Oregon could still end up in a three way tie for the PAC-10 title if they beat Oregon State and USC somehow manages to lose to UCLA.

Oregon St. has definitely been playing better of late, although I wasn't sure about that game with Arizona. Still, they pulled it out, and that's what the best teams do: find a way to win.

I'd say there was no frikkin way UCLA beats USC.... if it hadn't already happened two years ago under somewhat similar circumstances.

I'll definitely be rooting for the Ducks. They can't be in the Rose Bowl this year or go back to the Sun Bowl so I'm hoping for a Holiday Bowl invitation, where they'll get their butts kicked by some Big-12 team. But anything beats the lame Las Vegas and Emerald bowls.

Well of course I don't care where they go after that.

I just want to see a USC/Penn State Rose Bowl.

I've made my hotel reservations just in case (fingers crossed).

Without that midget running back, OSU should be vulnerable. Go get 'em!!!

:scream:

:techman:

I've heard nothing about Kendall Hunter not playing.
We're talking about the real OSU here Dorian. You know, the one that was graduating students about 40 years before Oklahoma even became a state. ;) :D

And even before that imposter that Neroon keeps insisting is OSU.

I'm not so sure. Older brother James ran for over 100 yards last week, which means the Ducks will be seeing a lot of that damned fly sweep OSU runs.

Lane Kiffin is a good choice for Tennessee, especially if the rumors of his dad and also Ed Orgeron being part of coaching staff are true. Kiffin & Orgeron made a dynamite recruiting team at USC, and Monte Kiffin is a great defensive coordinator. Getting his dad to leave NFL would be a major coup for LK.

Personally, I tend to think that Brian Kelly from Cincinnati would have been a better choice straight up. Kelly has been a winner just about every stop he's made in college. Just look at what he's done this season with the Bearcats and a raw Qb who was I think ... 3rd string maybe?

However, Kiffin is young and seems very energetic with good ideas. He certainly seeme dto be having the trainwreck aka Oakland Raiders in the right direction. And like you said Cyrus, there is a good chance of his dad bringing his incredible brand of defense with him.

I think Rutgers, UC and Pittsburgh will be the top teams in the Big East over the next few years—assuming Kelly stays on. Edsall's gonna jump ship, perhaps to Syracuse, and UConn's pretensions to the big time will follow him. WVU made an enormous mistake in elevating Bill Stewart. I predict a six or seven-loss season for the Mountaineers next year, and his subsequent demotion/firing. SU's a half-decade away from competing in the big time again, and that's assuming they get Edsall or some other capable coach. USF could go either way, but they lose just about everyone this year, and will be bottom dwellers in 2009. Louisville's in disarray, and their coach is a ineffectual blusterer.

Super early predictions for the Big East finish next year:

Pittsburgh 5-2 10-3
Rutgers 5-2 10-3
Cincinnati 4-3 9-4
West Virginia 3-4 6-6
South Florida 3-4 5-7
Connecticut 2-5 5-7
Louisville 2-5 5-7
Syracuse 2-5 3-9

And the Knights will defeat WVU next year. That's a lock.
