NBC's Brian Williams under fire

It's interesting to see the controversy that this has caused in the USA. In the UK, Cathy Newman of Channel 4 news, generally regarded as a liberal news programme, has been caught out apparently exaggerating (to put it mildly) an account of being 'ushered out of' a mosque. CCTV basically disproved her claim, which was made by tweet. Yet this has resulted in no censure for her: http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/6620026

From my point of view US news media seems to be mostly composed of hyperactive 6 year olds on a sugar-high. (But then I'm an entitled European who watches a lot of The Daily Show...:p)

They probably determined that they could go ahead and suspend him, in order to effect immediate consequences, while they continue to figure out the best long-term solution. Turness asserted there that this isn't the end of it.
IMO, it's 50/50 if Williams comes back. NBC Universal head Steve Burke talked about giving him a second chance, but anything can happen in six months--or just six days, even...

If it was just the Chinook story, it would have stayed 6 months. Now there's a new SEAL Team Six story and a Berlin Wall story that's breaking. People are clearly now retroactively fact-checking all his work. If it's found that he's been habitually lying/embellishing most of his stories for the past 20+ years, he'll be gone permanently.

Maybe he can go work for Russian Today after this :guffaw:

CCTV America and Al Jazeera America both have journalistic standards.
