NBA 2023-2024

Weeks after winning the NBA title, the Boston Celtics are up for sale. The owners plan to have the deal completed by late 2024/early 2025.

My two favorite teams are the Kings (or Kangz) and Spurs. Hard for me to envision either getting home court advantage for the playoffs, but I think they will vie for a play-in spot. My money's on the Spurs simply for defensive reasons. Kings will score, but not defend, as usual...

It seems like it's a forgone conclusion that Seattle and Las Vegas are getting expansion teams. Might not happen the same year since Vegas still isn't ready.

Wemby's on the way up though, Spurs will be competitive very soon.

I just want to know, if that happens, how the conferences will be realigned. 17 Western teams vs 15 Eastern teams. Geographically it seems either the Grizzlies or the Pelicans will move to the Eastern conference. But do either want to or will both fight against it?

Has to be Memphis or New Orleans. The third option is Minnesota since even though it's pretty far west by comparison, the closest teams to Minnesota all play in the east. It would be more practical and cut down on their travel.

Warner loses broadcast rights to Amazon for 11 years. NBA on TNT ends after next season. ESPN/ABC will maintain their primary coverage package, NBC gets the NBA back (cue the John Tesh theme!).

Amazon's deal includes the rights to six conference finals, the NBA Cup in-season tournament, play-in games and Thursday games during the regular season at the conclusion of their Thursday night NFL coverage.

Didn't want to start a new thread - Denver Nuggets fire their Head Coach and General Manager with five games left in the season and a number four spot in the playoffs.
He was their Head Coach for ten years and the Coach with the most wins in Nuggets history.

I saw that. Weren't they in strong playoff contention. They had won it a few years ago. Seems strange to fire a winning coach and GM.

The Paul Allen Estate has put the Portland Trailblazers up for sale; complicating Seattle's attempt at getting an expansion team, as the sale of the Blazers must be approved before expansion talks can begin. The thought was, once the Celtics deal went through, the NBA would announce Las Vegas and Seattle as the expansion finalists.

Congrats to the OKC Thunder for winning the 2025 Championship. That defense completely took over the game in the second half. Bummer to Indiana for Haliburton tearing his Achillies. I wonder if the game had been closer if he didn't get injured.

Portland coach Chauncey Billips and Miami guard Terry Rozier have been arrested as part of investigations into mafia-controlled illegal sports betting and rigged poker games.

I saw that NBC has the rights to air NBA games now and was showing the Clippers vs Warriors.
The game started at 8pm West Coast time, which meant it started at 11pm on the East Coast.
Who was the game geared for?
The West Coast audience, because I highly doubt people would start watching a game at 11pm on the East Coast.

They've been showing double headers on Tuesday, early east coast game (although it's not early on the east coast) and later west coast game.

Interesting.
Here in Seattle, they only air the second half of the double header - not the 5pm game.

Sometimes a local channel will consider it's own local news show more important than whatever the national sports programming is, and will move it to one of their subchannels. So if it's not on channel 8, for example, it's on 8.1 or 8.2 or 8.3 and so forth. And they won't tell anyone. You have to figure it out on your own.

Lenny Wilkins, former player/coach of the Seattle Supersonics, who led the team to their only Championship in 1979, has passed away at the age of 88.
He also won a Gold Medal for coaching the second Olympic Dream Team and is only one of a handful of individuals to inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.
He lived long enough to see the street in front of Climate Pledge Arena named in his honor back in May.
