I'm interested to try this. I've chickened out the last two years. We'll see where I am with Tesseract by November. Right now, it's taking up all my writing time. If I'm done or at least at a good point to take a break (I think it's eventually going to end up as a series, not a single story), then I might try to write the novel I've been thinking about writing for the last eight years. It's not even remotely sci-fi, though.

The basic premise behind The President's Daughter is that United Earth territories erupts into a civil war when the VP kills the President and takes office. The President's daughter is the captain of an escort ship and is sent to the ass-end of space by VP-loyal officers to keep her out the way. While there, she has to contend with a genocidal religious sect and civilian unrest while also trying to get proof about the VP.

Sounds more like Babylon 5 than Honor Harrington. Then again, there is no such thing as an original plot. It's all in how you write it.

Yes you are, this will be my second year and I hope to actually win this year. I've got my basic plot idea already.

I'm doing space opera with jumpgates etc. Action, adventure with a touch of romance.

I'm signed up, and am planning to work on Book Two of the "Their Finest Hour" series. I've been on a roll with the first book lately, and figure I can use the month of November to hopefully fire out to a big lead in the next part.

Yes, I'm using NanoWriMo like a giant literary Acme rocket strapped to my back. The Wily E. Coyote strategy of writing.

Sojourner, I seriously cannot thank you enough for posting this. I'd heard of NaNo, but didn't really know anything detailed about it.

I've been trying to get my butt motivated for sometime now to get back to writing, something I've loved since I was very young.

So, like Funngunner, I think I'm going to use this as my kick in the pants (btw, great clip!)

Even if I don't produce something worth submitting, I swear -- as God is my witness -- I will never be hungry agai ..., oh wait, wrong vow.

I will have something coherent written by midnight November 30th!
