Narnia 3 aka Voyage of the Dawn Treader has begun production

Jesus Christ don't need to be a dick! I said like 200 million, and for the movie that is way WAY too much!

And the actual budget was $225,095,932.76.

The first movie was OK, in the second there was lesser acting, a much less interesting story, too much aimless walking around. Eustace could be amusing, but otherwise not a lot of characterization and I don't know how mini-adventures could work thematically.

The problem is these Narnia movies is that they cost way too much to make. Instead of making them with a modest budget into small adventures they try to make them into epics like LOTR which is a mistake. The Narnia movies aren't as huge as LOTR or Potter and shouldn't try to be. Hell they aren't even as huge as Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

It looks like FOX has given Narnia 3 a lower budget and moved the release date to be around Christmas which is smart. Prince Caspian being released during the summer really killed it.

I'm still interested in seeing the BBC version of Narnia... Are they even better than the Disney movies?

And about Golden Compass... Perhaps with the subject matter that is contained in the His Dark Materials books, it might go over better as a mini-series on SyFy?

Dude, simply because every single time you post numbers, you're wrong, that's no reason to go trolling.

Really, these are commonly-available numbers. If you can't be bothered to find out what you're talking about, perhaps you should just ... I don't know ... not post? Then you won't need to be called out on how you're wrong about everything. :)

They're okay. The first two are pretty good. The Silver Chair goes on a bit, but Tom Baker as Puddleglum makes it watchable (always was my least favorite of the books).

Well, the first film was huge, bringing in $745 million worldwide. That's not as big as Potter or LOTR, but it's almost $100 million more than the first POTC film.

Prince Caspian, as you said, suffered from the summer release date, and the box office may have also dropped because the first book is by far the most famous in the series. Prince Caspian is also, in my opinion, the weakest book in the series. I actually think they did a good job with the movie. It's one of the rare cases where I found the movie more enjoyable than the book.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite book in the series, and with a reduced budget and a Christmas release there's every chance that it'll be a success and bring in a higher gross than Prince Caspian (although I doubt any other Narnia film will approach the first film's gross). Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a sweet, lyrical adventure. Hopefully Michael Apted will successfully transfer that quality to the screen.

Really? It's not my favourite, but I thought there was a lot to like about it, particularly the darker atmosphere. It's been decades since I last read it, but I'm sure I'd still take it over The Last Battle, at the very least.

I always got bored, if I remember right, especially of the witch. Strangely, though, Eustace and Jill are probably my favorite protagonist set in the series.

Susan Pevensie isn't in Dawn Treader. No Susan means no Anna Popplewell, and that makes me sad.
Me too. I would do things to that girl that would make Max Harcore's jaw drop in shock and disgust.

*ahem*

Having said that, I liked Prince Caspian at least as much as if not more than The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Somehow it felt more real. Both are cool movies, though. I confess to having never read the books, though. Mea culpa.

I'm glad to know they're going ahead with Dawn Treader, even though I was underwhelmed with Prince Caspian. I just found it a bit too dull, and the villain couldn't hold a candle to Tilda Swinton's White Witch in The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe. Still, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope that this film is an improvement.

Ahh, but Tilda Swinton was in it, in a particularly demonic scene. Made it all the more delicious.

Yes, I did like that scene, although it also further reminded me how much less I was enjoying Prince Caspian compared to the previous film.

Further along those lines.
I to was underwhelmed with Caspian and when the White Witch appeared I hoped for the film to pick up in intensity and quality. Having never read Caspian that wasn't a far fetched hope. Alas it wasn't meant to be and after her anti-climatic moment the film resumed its rather mundane pace.

I wasn't a huge fan of either film. Its theology is too rudimentary & condescending for my tastes. Nor is any of the acting here particularly impressive. If I had to pick one to watch again, it would be Prince Caspian since I thought at least the action was more exciting. Still, I wish this franchise well since my best friend is a huge fan.

Yeah. She joins the list of actresses along with Michelle Tractenberg (back in her late Buffy days), the older sister from Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, & the older sister from The Spiderwick Chronicles as young ladies tempting me into the "special hell.":o

The sad thing is there will never be a complete series pack if all the movies are made.

Alas, it joins that peculiar list of split movie franchises along side Childsplay, Friday the 13th, Hellboy, Highlander, Mad Max, The Terminator, The Transporter, and John Carpenter's 2 Snake Plissken movies, Escape from New York & Escape from L.A. (Thankfully New Line Home Video & Warner Home Video are now teaming up to give us a complete Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles box set with all 4 films.)

Some on set spies of NarniaFans.com has snagged some shots of the bow for The Dawn Treader.
