Narnia 3 aka Voyage of the Dawn Treader - Grade,Review,Speculate

I enjoyed A Horse and His Boy and didn't find it slow at all. I have my doubts as to whether it'll be adapted since it's an almost completely standalone story and the studio may be wary of the film coming under attack for being perceived as an anti-Muslim allegory.

I'd argue that the Narnia movies are better than the 1st two Potter films, but Potter 3 onwards, regardless of my opinions on the individual books (liked some, disliked some), the movies from Azkaban onwards are much, much better in every way than the Narnia films.
 
I'm not really sure how you could compare the two franchises to be honest. They're drastically different in terms of what they're both about.

They could still bring back the same actor for Eustace if they do go on to make The Silver Chair. They would just have to retool the story a little so that The Silver Chair happens a little later after the events of Dawn Treader then it does in the books. After all, they're clearly not opposed to retooling the story, given what creative liberties they took with Dawn Treader.

Well, there IS that, I suppose. But that kind of ending could be done with another of the movies. The Last Battle in particular is rather heavy-handed though and ultimately disappointing, and the weakest of all the books. Like say, if they decide The Magician's Nephew is their last movie, they could use the cameos from The Last Battle in it instead, like when the Pevensies and others are at the dinner table getting together in their Friends of Narnia gathering with Professor Kirke/Digory, etc, which would fit in well with the general theme of TMN.

I've found David Yates' Potter movies to be visually drab and emotionally cold, although Deathly Hallows Part 1 was an improvement. Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are the pinnacle of the Potter movies in my opinion, and I'd place them above the Narnia movies, but I prefer the Narnia movies to David Yates' Potter movies.

Agreed. I watched HBP recently and felt it was a mess. Hated the style it was shot in and it felt like it was a random selection of scenes that don't have anything to do with each other haphazardly sewn together, and felt rather devoid of emotion and heart as a result. In fact, the only scene I felt was effective was Dumbledore's death.

Damn. I'm the complete opposite. Though flawed, I thought the visual style of HBP was fantastic and as a whole it was a clear improvement over OOTP. On the other hand I thought that Dumbledore's death was abysmally executed. :lol:

The Narnia films are easily superior to both GoF and OOTP. I'd say they were on par with HBP and CoS. But SC, PoA and DH1 were superior. IMO.
 
As much as I love the Narnia movies, I have to say that I find the Potter movies better on the whole. The books, of both series, on the other hand, are just about dead even in terms of quality, IMO.

As for the Potter movies, my favorites are Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Deathly Hallows I. The first two really set a tone for the films that I enjoyed and appreciated. Starting with PoA, that tone was altered. It wasn't so noticeable in the third movie, but by the time Half-Blood Prince came out, I could really see that this was a different atmosphere. As a result, as far as I'm concerned, the films and the books are in two completely separate continuities. Deathly Hallows I was a greatly welcomed step in the right direction.
 
I'd love to see any of the remaining Narnia movies get made.

This is sad news.

Though, maybe it opens possibilities for The Silver Chair. A guy can hope, right?
 
I would rather they went with The Silver Chair, personally. However, I won't be surprised if the series is dead, since the last two movies were box office disappointments.
 
From the producers comments I got the sense that the franchise is back in limbo and they're not entirely sure what to do next. It is the "breaks my heart" comment that makes me think we've gone back to square one again. I will be pleasantly surprised if a Narnia film gets a green light in the next few months.
