Narada Incursion

I wish the split had just happened in 2258 and Narada and Jellyfish turned up around the same time, both for story reasons and technical reasons.
I totally buy Red Matter creating alternate universes and the Kelvinverse having it's own spinoffs, one where a smashed up Vulcan came through and one where a smashed up Narada came tumbling through, and the latter also ended up with Robau's and Pike's shuttles, sometime in the early 22nd century.

Regarding red matter creating a branching timeline (as opposed to overwriting the original) I'm perfectly willing to accept the explanation propounded by @Christopher in his Department of Temporal Investigations novels.

I can't say I understand the exact science, if there is any, but it's as good an explanation as we're ever likely to get.

The basic thrust of the gist is, the time vortex created by the red matter was one-way: Information is only passed from the present (24th century) to the past (2233). That's why the Kelvin timeline doesn't overwrite the original.

If the exchange of information was two-way - meaning, from 23xx to 2233 and back - the Kelvin timeline would indeed have overwritten the original.

And furthermore, I would add that there's possibly a window of time after the portal forms that you have in which to enter and wind up in the same timeline as each other. Perhaps after that window, particularly when the portal destabilizes, one can wind up being sent elsewhen in whole or in part.
