Names you could have got.

When I read the "send your name to Mars" post, I wondered...what other names had your parents for you, besides the one you got in the end?

Mine only had one other name: Daniel
My father liked the name, my mother not so much, so she said, if its a boy and gets that name we NEVER call him Danny, but only Dan, than she would be alright with the name too.

Lets here the names you could have got instead. :)

At first my father didn't like the idea of me being named after him, so my mother planned on calling me Stephen; then my father relented, so I'm Richard. My first brother then got to be Stephen.

If I'd been a boy, I would have been Joshua David. Same deal with my younger sister. By the time Sister #3 came along, they'd given up and Dad picked out Rebecca... but they ended up naming her Amanda. My understanding is that Mom didn't like "Becky".

Amelia was my mom's first choice, and Carmen(!) was my dad's first choice. But I ended up as neither. If I'd been a boy it would've been Nathan.

Amelia would have suited me. Carmen would not.

If I had been a girl, I would have been a Katie.

As for my wife, my in-laws were well set on names for girls, but they had series of heated arguments about boy names. All of their picks for a boy name.... well, let say they were better off having only girls.

If I'd been born a boy, my name would have been Gene (!) after my dad's brother who passed away before I was born. I'm glad I'm a girl...

I was told that if I was a girl I was going been called Rose... Starts to get a little personal when they say; 'We were expecting a girl.' lol. They used that whole 'boy, girl, boy, girl logic'...

I was supposed to be "Jacklyn." My two older sisters both have "J" names so Mom and Dad got cold feet and thought that 3 J names would be odd, since neither Mom nor Dad had a J name. Besides, Mom didn't want people to think they named me after a First Lady.

So they named me "Hillary" because Dad had been reading a National Geographic magazine in the hospital waiting room, about the guy who climbed Mt. Everest. (Yeah, and so much for the First Lady thing)

I freaking HATE my name. I was the only Hillary in my entire school, until I was a Junior in high school. And no one EVER spelled my name right; the usual spelling is one L. I think only Mrs. Clinton and I use two. My Mom, my sisters, my husband, etc don't call me "Hillary"--it's always Hill. Only my Dad calls me by my full name---because he's a jerk.

I don't think I look like a "Jackie" but I wonder if I would've been happier if I didn't have such a snotty-sounding name.

Could be known as Fred. Also could had a middle name as Spur, as my late grandmother wanted my parents to give me that name. It is name from my grandmother's family.

No idea. I don't think my parents had alternate names. I honestly think they just pulled mine out of their ass.

If it hadn't been for my mother putting her foot down, I'd have been "Ladson Isaac ******** the FOURTH"... and known as "Lad"...

thank God she did..I'd never had my lunch money in school if that had been my name.

I'd suggest that people tread a little cautiously, lest they offend someone with their comments about certain names!

If I were a boy then Spencer Ashley-Ryan was the choice.

Other choices for female names were

Danika Natalie-Valerie-Josephine
Aspen
Brianna
Alyssa Melodia-Verity-Victoire
Sophie Raquel-Adrienne-Rianne
Olivia Marie-Bernadette-Lisbeth

Or
Mariah Victoire-Ashlee-Lynn, which they later gave to my littlest sister.

I was Mairiee sine my mom thought Mary was too common of a spelling, and to this day no one pronounces it right, they over complicate it all of the time.

My parents finally decided on John, after choosing between John, David, and James. If I would have been a girl, they were going to name me Catherine Renee Elizabeth (all one name).

Not 100% on the theme on this thread, but at the moment I am deciding whether I should do a John Hargrave and legally rename myself Sir Nick.
