Names spelt strange ways

My surname is Joy ~ exactly as it is. And the amount of people that ask 'how do you spell that?' makes me want to make up a different way...
Actually I have deja vu ~ I think The Iguana came out with the Italian for Joy which I should use.

It was Gioi (pronounce the same as Joy), which is the name of a town near Salerno, in South Italy. Striking beautiful place, I might add... which is obviously quite apt for you, darling.

I love that! It would be so wonderfully mysterious and I could make up stories of how it came to be

My real name is Sean and I've some trouble with people spelling it. I think if I added up all the time in my life spelling my name for people it would come out to a few hours.
That's what parents should consider. If you have a girl and call her Ciarraah or some crap, she'll reach age 100 or something and would have spent something like 35 days spelling her name for people!

There's a funny story, I had a buddy Karl, he called someplace to make reservations or an appointment, then when he went there they'd written his name as Carlk. He asked what that was about and they said that's what they'd been told by the woman who'd taken his call.
You see, he'd told her his name was "Karl...with a K"

As a kid, i thought Sean Connery was pronounced SEEN. And to this day whenever i see Sean Bean's name somewhere the voices in my head say "SEEN BEAN".

YES! I had the same issue in school with my name. They would always ask me 'what is Jade short for?' I was surprised that no one had heard the name before.....

Yeah it's pretty irritating. I noticed someone on the Amazing Race the other day named Caite. If you want your child to have a unique name, then make one up. I'm fine with that as long as the spelling matches the pronunciation. Like Vanette or something. But it seems silly to me to just change the spelling of an already existing name. It just serves to unnecessarily complicate matters.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. My name is Barbara and I have spent my life spelling it to people because they want to take out the second "a" because of Barbra Streisand. So it's not just your spelling of a name that makes a difference, it's everyone else's too. Once one person muddies the waters with a different spelling everyone else has to spell their name all the time.

In my country Randy is usually short for Randall. I have know a few Randalls but I have never meet a Randolph as far as I know.

I met a guy (friend of a friend) whose name was L'nel. NOT Lionel and not short for Lionel. Prounouced Luh-NELL.
