^If all the starships in TOS have unique patch designs might mean that Stafleet standardized on the USS Enterpise insignia around 2278 considering the uniforms worn by Capt. Bateson and the crew of USS Bozeman NCC-1941 in TNG "Cause and Effect" as another way to commemorate the James T Kirk Five Year Mission.
