Nacelle Star Trek action figures

I must say I find it to be a bit of a dubious business practice to make a second wave available, let alone talking about a third and fourth (!) wave, and not make sure people even have the first one in hand, having a chance to assess its quality. I personally wasn’t aware of Nacelle before they put out these figures; I take it they are reputable people? Some of the extra elements they plan to pack these figures with have me wonder if they’ll actually be able to produce them the way they look in these renderings. I don’t suppose any of the figures from the first wave have ever been spotted in their actual packaging with all accessories inside, correct?

That said, if the Tuvix figure I ordered from the first wave turns out to look as good as promised, I will definitely look into ordering Nog, T’Pol and “Year of Hell”-Janeway as well. :)
They are a new company, but their Biker Mice and Expanse figures look like the real deal. I don't really have any concerns about the quality.

Brian Volk-Weiss has said that he owns the company and he's basically making these as a fan. As long as he's making a modest margin, he's happy. They probably have fewer overheads, and selling direct to fans means the retailers don't take a big cut. It's probably more doable than the big toy mega conglomerates like Hasbro and Playmates.

Still seems insane that Playmates were trying to sell their figures in regular retail shops.

I do think it was probably premature to announce waves 3 and 4 before wave 2 was even available to pre-order…let alone have wave 1 in hand. But if the CEO is a big fan I could see getting excited and wanting to share.

There are pictures of wave 1 in the packaging on Amazon but I think they are just mockups. Not the actual, real deal item.

To be fair to Playmates, it was the retail shops who placed the wholesale orders for those. The shops obviously overestimated the market for Star Trek figures and bailed when they didn’t sell.

But that's obviously on Playmates too, because that was their whole business model.

Star Trek in a niche market, and selling directly to those fans is the best strategy. Fortunately between the likes of Master Replicas, Nacelle and Exo-6, that is now happening.

Playmates was seeing some success with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line at Walmart so the dice roll makes a measure of sense. Star Trek just lacks the child appeal as TMNT has with variety of designs, colors and unique shapes.

And Hasbro and Mattel are doubling down on a massive retail presence for this upcoming holiday season so there is still a mindset of manufacturers that retail space is worthwhile.

Amazon has all of Wave 1 as a release/delivery date of Feb 2, 2026. But that could still just be an estimate.

If that‘s indeed the case, would it kill them to, you know, tell the people who actually ordered one of those figures in a quick e-mail that they won‘t ship in “Q4 2025” after all?

Ye gods, it's the Voyager Doc experience, all over again.

What's next, Nacelle will start selling figures exclusively to convention-goers for the next four months without a word to anyone that pre-ordered?

assuming the picture is accurate…it has to be Romulan Kirk right? Although that would violate the “figures that have never been done before” thing.

Sucks that they’ve switched to exclusives so soon too, unless that mystery two-pack turns out to be Kirk and the Romulan Commander from The Enterprise Incident and this is just a single carded repack.

Looks like the tweet has been deleted, but if folks on a cruise/convention are getting the first shot at tie-in merch without the vendor saying anything to the folks who already pre-ordered first, I'm reminded too much of the Voyager documentary mess.

So the cruise exclusive will be available to everyone on the Nacelle website sometime next year. Cruise people just get first crack at it and wave 1 starts shipping this month.

The article also shows actual in packaging pics. Not just the mockups we’ve seen on Amazon.

Did they say that they are not going to do any figures that have ever been done before, or was it just the preference/aim early on?

Either way, this won't be the first figure that has been done before 'cause they have a naval uniform Worf in wave 2, which Playmates did do back in the day.

Edit: And wave 3 is full of TOS main characters.

Yeah that was only the original pitch, they changed to do full crew waves based on feedback.

But the interim waves are still mainly deep cuts that haven't been done before.
