Mythbusters Does Star Trek ?

Mythbuster Grant Imahara just posted this on his Twitter.

Prepping for this afternoon's story meeting by watching "Arena". Watching Star Trek at work. For work. Best. Job. Ever.

My guess is that he and the build team are going to test whether or not Kirk really could have constructed a makeshift diamond gun/cannon out of the materials the Metreons left for him and the Gorn in "Arena".

Edit - confirmed, that's what they're doing.

Hopefully this is part of a larger Star Trek special. Any ideas for other Star Trek myths they could do ? (Stuff they can actually test, not warp drive or transporters!!!!)

Bah! They should find out if the transporter actually transports you or if it simply kills you and makes a copy that doesn't know any better. :p

"So how exactly can we test if a matter\antimatter reaction can propel a starship faster than light?"
"Well as always, I'm going to suggest we start with a scale model..."

;)

Yay! I actually suggested that myth a couple years ago on the Mythbusters Fan Club Forum, and we had a pretty good discussion about it. So maybe this myth is kind of slightly being done because of me, though I'm probably just one of many people who suggested it.

I do wonder where they're going to get that many diamonds of that size. Maybe they can get some industrial diamonds cheap? Or will they find a substitute of the same density as I suggested in the MBFC thread?

Where are they going to get a Gorn to see if the makeshift cannon actually worked in stopping a Gorn?

probably in several months since that's generally how long it takes for shows to get to air, and you have to take into account that this is from a meeting talking about upcoming shows rather than actual filming, so I think we may see it sometime in the late fall

the neck pinch? maybe not . . . no explosives :D

No that would be a good back-up Myth to test..they could talk to Martial arts experts and Doctors to see if it could work..now how they would test it is another thing though I don't think trying it on "Buster" would work maybe Adam?.
