Mythbuster Grant Imahara just posted this on his Twitter. My guess is that he and the build team are going to test whether or not Kirk really could have constructed a makeshift diamond gun/cannon out of the materials the Metreons left for him and the Gorn in "Arena". Edit - confirmed, that's what they're doing. Hopefully this is part of a larger Star Trek special. Any ideas for other Star Trek myths they could do ? (Stuff they can actually test, not warp drive or transporters!!!!)
Bah! They should find out if the transporter actually transports you or if it simply kills you and makes a copy that doesn't know any better.
"So how exactly can we test if a matter\antimatter reaction can propel a starship faster than light?" "Well as always, I'm going to suggest we start with a scale model..."
Yay! I actually suggested that myth a couple years ago on the Mythbusters Fan Club Forum, and we had a pretty good discussion about it. So maybe this myth is kind of slightly being done because of me, though I'm probably just one of many people who suggested it. I do wonder where they're going to get that many diamonds of that size. Maybe they can get some industrial diamonds cheap? Or will they find a substitute of the same density as I suggested in the MBFC thread?
Where are they going to get a Gorn to see if the makeshift cannon actually worked in stopping a Gorn?
probably in several months since that's generally how long it takes for shows to get to air, and you have to take into account that this is from a meeting talking about upcoming shows rather than actual filming, so I think we may see it sometime in the late fall
No that would be a good back-up Myth to test..they could talk to Martial arts experts and Doctors to see if it could work..now how they would test it is another thing though I don't think trying it on "Buster" would work maybe Adam?.
