Mysterious Structures in San Diego

Admiral Archer

Captain
Captain
A few years back when I was flying into San Diego to visit my mom and stepdad, I noticed two strange, intricately designed arches ot domes formed from what looked like white metal. I never did figure out what they were, and I only saw them from the air as the plane was preparing to land. They looked a lot like the image below, with a strong resemblance to elvish architecture from Lord of the Rings.

If anyone knows what these structures are or where I can visit them, please let me know! I thought they were so cool.

Any memory of what direction you came in? I remember coming in from the east up and over the mountains.

You fly over Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo on the landing approach to San Diego International Airport. There's a solid dome and tower for the San Diego Museum of Man, but I think I remember seeing what you shown (just don't remember where exactly).

Depending if the Admiral saw something that was under construction:

There's the SD Air & Space Museum

The Fleet Science Center

Something related to the SD Zoo

Seems like it was as we were approaching downtown and Balboa Park, after the mountains. It was definitely west of the mountains, and much closer to downtown, but I can't remember exactly where. I thought I was crazy or imagining things, but seeing your guy's posts makes me feel like I actually saw something real.

Probably not very visible.

It MIGHT have just been the library. My memory recalls that the structures were in a pair, smaller than the library, and solid white in color, however this was three years ago so my memory could have been playing tricks on me. Still, I was aware of the library then, and I remember thinking, "That's not the library. So what is it?"

Ask yourself if the library was on the side of the plane you would have been in, and if anything else would be large enough to be visible.

There's a round Sheraton on I-5, further north than the library. Obviously less elvish than the library.

That's a pretty approach. I've never flown into San Diego..only by car.
