The biggest one - what the hell is going on?
:guffaw:

Actually I've kind of gotten past it, I'm just kind of watching out of habit at this point. And I still enjoy a lot of the "character moments" here and there. The mystery itself has kind of passed me by.

What about Cindy and Libby?

Cindy was the airline flight attendant but then became an other? Was she always an other? If so why was she on flight 815? If she was not an other then why was she sacking up with them in the second and third seasons?

And what is with Libby? She is in the institution with Hurley, but then out. Then she met Des and gave him a boat. What is her deal?

And teh numbers too, why were they being broadcast and what did it mean that they were being broadcast....like what was the point?

You know, I like to sort of generally ruminate on how things fit together but I'm not particularly obsessed with any specific mystery. I'm not one to come up with elaborate theories. Or any theories really.

I guess I used to be like that back in Season 2 but now that it's coming to an end I spend most of my Lost time analyzing the cool ways things we already know fit together.

I find thinking about the grand answers to come reminds me that the show's about to end, and that's kind of depressing.

There's obviously something special with Hurley though. He is continually having long conversations with the dead.

My theories:
1. The Smoke Monster
Island's protective system, left by long-lost ancient civilization. Or aliens.
2. Widmore v Ben
Widmore wants to get back to the island and to have it all to himself. Ben doesn't want Widmore to kill everyone. Something ugly probably happened between Widmore and the Others in the past, which led to Widmore being kicked out of the island and ever since he devoted his life to getting back and revenge.
3. Rousseau's Expedition
Found the island by incident.
4. The Numbers
AFAIR, the creators of the show said that the numbers don't mean anything, they are one of the ways to confuse the watcher.
5. The Four Toed Statue
Remnant of a long-lost civilization.
6. Richard
Either remnant of a long-lost civilization or someone who found the island by incident in the past. The island probably gives people inhabiting it either eternal or very-very long life, just like it heals people very fast.
7. Jacob
Same as Richard, only lived on the island much longer.
8. Christian Shephard
Island's way to communicate with the survivors.
9. Hurley Sees Dead People
Same as 8.
10. Time Travel
Writers' way to finally abandon all logical or sequential plot development.
11. The Purge
The Others got fed up with other people trying to exploit the island and killed them.
12. Walt
Same as 8.
Your turn.

I definitely agree that there's something special about Hurley because of the Numbers, but I don't think he's special because he talks to dead people.

I tend to agree. Jack's been seeing his dad all over the place. Of course, we know now that when he saw him on the island he wasn't "hallucinating" But, he did see him in "Something Nice Back Home."

And yeah, Hurley is special because of the Numbers and also the Hurley Bird from the Seasons 1 and 2 finales. I wanna know what's up with that fucking bird!

I still love the show, but to me it's become about the characters and seeing how their story turns out, and not so much about the mystery anymore. The major points of the mystery have already been answered to my satisfaction: 1. Who the "Others" are (Ben and his people) 2. Who Dharma was (a group of scientists studying the island) 3. What is so special about the island (a source of nearly unlimited energy lies underground somewhere near the frozen donkey wheel) 4. Is the island sentient (yes, it seems reasonably certain now that it is, or it might be explained that Jacob somehow is the Island, the difference is not important). The big mystery to me now is how the writers are going to end the show, I'm dying to see how it plays out.

The toes the toes THE FOUR TOES!!! :klingon::klingon::klingon:

Vincent goes back to the Cretaceous and becomes the progenitor of an evolved race of canines that walk upright, yet still have only four toes. They inhabit the Island and build statues to their great diety, Vincent the First. Yeah, that's it...

I like a bit of mystery, especially now that we've entered a phase where at least some of it is tied together and explained. I don't mind of some of the stuff is kept unsolved.

Random thoughts, though (that's whats the most fun about the mysteries ;)):

1. The Smoke Monster
Some kind of guardian of the island. From the same people(?) that built the donkey wheel.
2. Widmore v Ben
No idea ;P
3. Rousseau's Expedition
Random visitors like the Black Rock, the Balloon and the drug plane. Rousseau flipped out.
4. The Numbers
According to the extended stuff, they are the core values of the Valencetti Equation, modelling humanity survival. Possibly also some kind of characteristic values of the Island in some way.
5. The Four Toed Statue
From the same guys that built the Ruins. Other than that, unknown.
6. Richard
The real-life Richard Alpert was named "Ram Dass", "Servant of God", claims Lostpedia. I take that to mean he is the "Servant" of Jacob.
7. Jacob
Represents the Island. Other than that, mysterious.
8. Christian Shephard
A body inhabited by Jacob. Don't bring dead bodies to the Island.
9. Hurley Sees Dead People
Well, so do other people. The island does seem to have something to do with life and death.
10. Time Travel
Certainly explains the ship- and plane wrecks from all over time and space. An inherent function of whatever the original Island was supposed to do.
11. The Purge
Another attack on 'invaders', similar to the small scale 1950s conflicts with the US army. Possibly after Dharma did some things that are part of some plan (building all those stations and getting Ben etc. to the island).
12. Walt
One of several people that have some destiny related to the island. In fact, I'd say the majority of people have some special thing they have to do on the island (Lock, Walt, Desmond, Eko, Ben, etc. all seem to have specific roles set out for them).

Some more mysteries:

13. The Whispers
14. Black Rock
15. The Adam and Eve skeletons

1. What is Cerebus (Smoke Monster)? 2. What is Jacob? 3. What is the Four Toed Statue? 4. What are the Whispers? 5. What are the Numbers? (this one was answered in the internet game but why do they have this magical curse power?)

How did Dharma manage to build so many stations and last so long on the island before the Others attacked them and wiped them out? I mean those stations are all over the island and they must have taken months or longer to build each one. So... How did they manage to do that? Why did the Others let them get that far?

1. The stations were largely below-ground to begin with, allowing Dharma to build up strength in secret.

2. Dharma was on the Island before the Others.

Pretty much everything. The monsters, the statue, the whispers, the Hurley Bird, the Black Rock, Montand's arm etc.

Dharma showed up heavily armed and loaded for war. After all, they knew about how the US expeditionary force from 1954 was never heard from again! The Hostiles couldn't stop them at first. Especially when they figured out a way to repel Cerebus! In the end it was only through a fifth column infiltration of the Tempest that they managed to beat the invaders.

Holy crap, I forgot all about the Hurley Bird!

what's going to happen since Claire isn't raising Aaron like the psychic warned her? Why doesn't Kate ever call Aaron by his name? Does Jin have to return to the island too? Why were the island people speaking Latin? How did Vincent survive the crash?

There's an extremely good chance that Vincent is really Cerebus. He *IS* the Dog of Doom! Even if he's not... the Island healed his broken widdle legs.
