Myriad Universe?

What is this series about? I stumbled upon the title. I can't find anything on it. I assumed it was tied in with the Mirror Universe books. I havent even seen any threads on this.

It will be a collection of six (short?) novels, three per trade paperback (the same way last year's Mirror Universe books were arranged). They are "What If...?" scenarios, so they will be set in divergeant timelines, but not the Mirror Universe one (which has its own anthology of short stories coming out this year as well). Scope out Jeff Ayers' website for more details.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

It's actually Myriad Universes. "Myriad" means "a great many" (well, it literally means the number 10,000, but it's rarely used that way anymore). It's based on the idea established in various Trek episodes that history is constantly branching in many different directions. Each of the six short novels explores a different alternate history, one where a key event in Trek history went differently (sort of like "What if the Borg had won in 'The Best of Both Worlds'," although that isn't one of them).

It isn't really a Mirror Universe tie-in or spinoff except in a promotional sense. The idea has been around at Pocket for years, but it never got the official go-ahead until the Mirror Universe duology proved that stories about alternate Trek realities were commercially viable.

this sounds similar to an idea IDW had in their "Focus on,,, Star Trek" book. It was a mini-series that was going to be called "Probability Factor."

the scenario im really hoping for is, what if Picard had stayed locutus/died as locutus?

That has in a way been done before, in a multipart story in DC's TNG series. It has our normal TNG guys end up in a parallel universe where Locutus lead the Borg to victory over Earth.

We also got a bit of that in "Parallels" as well. I'd like to see things like what if Picard had remained a Lieutenant under Thomas Hathaway? Or if Kirk resigned his captaincy to help raise David Marcus? Or if Spock stayed dead and McCoy was put in an asylum? Just something that hasn't been as played out as what if Picard had died or whatnot in BOBW.

Pocket was kicking around "Myriad Universes" under previous working titles, such as "Split Infinities" and "Other Times", for many years.

Marvel had a similar idea too, called "Realities".

Here are some stories you probably won't be seeing in the anthology:

What if Bones had been an escalator, not a doctor?

What if Mudd's androids had been programmed to respond in that area?

What if Q had been R instead?

What if Worf were a merry man?

What if it hadn't been a faaaaaake?

The titles of the individual stories we know so far aren't really given much away either about what could be the scenarios. I guess it's just wait and see.

That's okay as long as we get the ones where:

What if Risk...wasn't...our Business.

What if prune juice wasn't a warrior's drink?

What if Spock had computed the odds of a Royal Fizbin?

What if Pakleds didn't look for things?

What if Kira had never cut her hair?

and finally...

What if he wasn't KIIIRRROOKK!!!
