My views on the new movie

I liked it. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. Some parts I liked, some I disliked. I liked Old Spock, "Nu"McCoy, the special effects, and the "teaser" (pre-title scene). I disliked "Nu"Kirk (too much of a douchebag), the villain (how two-dimensional can a villain get?), and "Nu"Chekov (WAAAAY too Russian).

One thing that I absolutely hate is not the movie, but the constant bickering between those who loved and hated it.
Here's an average discussion on a forum:
User #1: I liked it.
User #2: I hated it.
User #1: You suck for hating it.
User #2: Blah it had (insert canon violation here) and I hated it, it was dumb dumby poopy.
User #1: Blah shut up, you should be worshiping the movie like I do.
Have Trek fans always been this argumentative about something?

Another thing that bothers me is the constant "jizzing of pants" as I call it, over the movie. Sure, it was good, but some people are too um... enthusiastic. *dodges brick*

Then there's the alternate universe crap. In past Trek episodes/movies, someone goes back in time, changes some shit, and the main timeline is altered forever. Good examples are "Star Trek: First Contact" and "The City on the Edge of Forever". The same principles should apply to the new movie. But Roberto Orci or the other one, (can't remember his name at the moment, nor do I care) told everyone that Nero created an "alternate timeline", which didn't affect the "prime" timeline at all. Are we really to believe that happened, because the guy said so? :wtf:

Again, I liked the new movie, so please don't call me a "hater" or a "naysayer". These are just things I've been needing to say for months.

Hahahaha... yes, that is a typical thread on TrekBBS, but Trek fandom is made up of many people with many views. I appreciate those whose opinion is different from mine... as long as they are civil about it.

I loved the new movie. It revived a dying franchise. It also went back to Star Trek's roots of fun and adventure. The surprise for me was that it also had depth and a moral or two (see my signature line for two of them).

Wow, there's a new movie; I didn't think it was coming out until Summer 2012.

Of course, not...:shifty:

Hey! It's on the top of my movie list...

Godfather...Goodfellas...Malcolm X...The Virgin Spring....The Professional...The Incredibles...dont. come.close...

You....hater!

Star Trek 09' is the movie of....09'!

****

;)

I hope that came off as sarcasm....:alienblush::hugegrin::biggrin:

Seriously, though...yes, Trek fans can be argumentative...(I even got into a few arguments myself; thank goodness for the mods). Too, I think on a lot of fansites, you'll have some disagreements of one type or another...

I do agree the movie was good, but it had it's flaws storywise...

I like the fact the film brought back the fun that had been missing in the series for so long; also.....*cough*the go-go boots and minidresses...*cough**cough*

Welcome to the boards, cadet...:techman:

I call ST09 the "new movie". Some say "the current movie", but I prefer "the new movie".
The movie -- and the discussion -- was new in May and June. This discussion is mature at this point. Just take a look at the topics, and you'll find probably a couple score of people who say what you do.

Only some of them. Most are a bit more relaxed and really don't mind very much that others may hold different opinions about a thing.

...and yet we somehow find new things to discuss each time. Much like the forums dedicated to all the other incarnations of Trek. Isn't it wonderful that 40+ years later we can still talk about Star Trek?:bolian:

It is, and if someone comes in here and calls 40-year old Star Trek "new," more than likely someone is going to remark that it's been discussed before.

"Again, I liked the new movie, so please don't call me a "hater" or a "naysayer". These are just things I've been needing to say for months."

Do not deny your hate, young one. It can give you Power!
...
...
wait. That's the Other One again, isn't it?
Oh well. After Abrams who can tell the difference anymore:devil:.
*mad cackle*

Maybe there were a couple score of people in May and June, but the topics have matured at this point so there may be more or possibly less by now. You should go and check.

What I got from the new film.... It was "fun"
Something Trek hasn't been in like a real long time....
It took itself far to seriously for far too many years.

The new film was "Over The Top" in the same way Doomsday Machine was "Over The Top" I'm talking scenery chewing at it's finest. I bet the scenery tasted good too from the look of everything in the new film.

There are some minor quibbles, but those can be overlooked as the overall experience was a nice "Kick in the pants" Trek needed for so long, to remind us why we love it so much.

Not necessary; the people and their thousands of posts are still here. It's not new anymore. There were discussions here before the OP showed up.

onstant "jizzing of pants" as I call it, over the movie. Sure, it was good, but some people are too um... enthusiastic.

That's just because we liked it a lot better than you did. Too enthusiastic for you, maybe. Just fine for us.
Well that was very civilized and totally not rude. [/sarcasm]

I can see where you're going. But to me, I don't care if Trek is fun, or dramatic. Just as long as there's more Trek to watch and enjoy.

Like Enterprise, which I loved. (DON'T KILL ME!)

What, you mean the part where you referred to us enthusiasts as "jizzing our pants?" I have to disagree - that was totally rude and uncalled for.
