My Top 10 Favorite non-canon Starfleet Ships!

#10 USS Typhon and Valkyrie Fighters (Star Trek: Invasion)
http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Invasion

Invasion may not have been a popular game, and it was damn frustrating to play--but the notion of a true Fighter Carrier ship, and true Starfleet fighters still to this day gets my imagination going. Sure it may be a rip off of the old Galactica in some ways. Nevertheless, the possibilities this mobile fortress opens up are very neat.

#9 USS Titan - Sean Tourangeau
http://stourangeau.deviantart.com

I wasn't a fan when this design was picked as the winner, but it has since grown on me. On looks I'd say this is the successor to the Nebula Class, and it'll function as the workhorse for Starfleet for the next 40 years.

#8 USS Concord - Dennis Bailey
(Lost the thread with all the beauty shots in it!)

I loved this update to the Constitution Class. I don't know what the Connies are used for in the modern fleet... but if I were a mid level diplomat on a four day voyage somewhere, I would not mind riding in on the Concord!

#7 Infinity Class - Unknown, Credit needed.
http://forums.spacebattles.com/showthread.php?t=105184&page=15

I like how compact and aggressive this ship is. It seems like it would be the tactical brother to the Nova class. They could share hardware and engine components, but this vessel would have less scientific instruments, and more armor and weapons packages.

#6 Talon Class - Paul S. Cargile

http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?49610-Blasts-from-the-past.-(12-img)

I can totally see a trio of these ships, along with a pair of Defiants escorting some Galaxy class vessels into a major confrontation, torpedoes firing away. This ship, with it's stance alone will draw enemy fire.

#5 USS Enterprise-F - Adam Ilhe
http://ihlecreations.com/Concepts/concepts.html

Truth be told, it's an interesting design, but I personally don't see this vessel as the successor to the Sovereign Class or the new Flagship of the United Federation of Planets. I think it's too wide at spots, and looks good from only a few angles. Nevertheless, I love the competition that birthed it, and if is the new Big E, if only in the MMO-verse, then I'll salute it!

#4 USS Grandeur - Vektor
http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/showthread.php?638-USS-Grandeur-Final-Version/page83

I don't know what Vektor's thoughts were on the role of this vessel. I saw it as Starfleet's move to replace all the Galaxy class ships we lost in the Dominion War, with upgraded systems and an aesthetic that would bring the role of this capital type ship back to exploration. Galaxy muscle, with diplomatic elegance.

#3 NX-01 Refit - Doug Drexler
http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/

Thank you Doug! I would have watched season 5 for the new design alone! Man, this design is great on so many levels. Such a shame! If this was the design out of the gate, so many arguments on these forums could've been avoided!

#2 Eaves Class - Mark Kingsnorth (Based off sketches by John Eaves)

http://www.markkingsnorth.com/category/starships/eaves-class/

This ship is so pretty! It seems like a clear successor to the Excelsior class in a way the Sovereign Class has outdone. It's a little derivative of course, but it's still so beautiful. It looks like it's ready to jump off the web and onto the screen. Great model work!

#1 USS Aventine - Mark Rademaker

http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/USS_Aventine

This ship is incredible. I want it. I want a model of it in my hands. I want to see it weekly on TV. I want it to fly across the starscapes while the main credits roll. It's so captivating. It looks amazing from so many angles. Honestly, with respects to Mr. Ilhe, THIS should be the Enterprise-F! Slipstream drive huh? Guess Starfleet's taking the big leap.

You say the Aventine looks amazing from so many angles.

One question-- what angles?

I've only seen that one pic of the ship, and then later a second shot. That's it. Where are all the others? What angles? Are there multiple views of the Aventine available?

But having said that....god that is an awful looking ship. I've always thought so. I mean, sure, it looks good from some angles, and the main hull isn't so bad, but that pylon/nacelle arrangement is just "WTF" to me. There is no grace or style in that layout, its just way too blocky for my liking.

Thanx for that Aventine link.

I've tried Aventine images searches before with no luck,
always that one SOTL image again and again.

Of course, this was several months ago and I stopped looking. New stuff turns up, I guess.

Having only seen that one angle for the longest time, I thought it was a great looking ship. However, seeing that link you posted...UGH!!! The fore and aft views in particular are bulky and hideous...in my opinion, of course.

Hmm.. non canon ships I like?

Lets see..

Vektor's Grandeur, Fuzzy Modem's Ent F concept, Titan Designer's Hammered class, all kitbashes by Forbin, Floodcasso2's Daedalus refit, thats only a few, lots and lots of really wonderful designs out there, luckily a LOT of them are shown here, lots of talent.. some updates and reworks of the TOS Enterprise are so very great too, hmm, where;s Deg? :shifty: and Dennis's Phase II ship.. awesome too.. Lord Sarvain's planet of the Titan's ship.. there's no end to the list.

- Paul S. Cargile's "Ranger-Class"
- Kaden + Galen's "Legacy-Class"
- Kaden & Galen's "Pandora-Class"

Anything done by John Eaves.

While I can take Eaves' style in small doses, after a while, seeing it on ship after ship, it gets to be rather samey.

There was one done here not long ago. Can't recall by who, but MadMan did a 3D render of it. It was called the Metaluna I believe. I think that one is wonderful.

Eh, I dont see any faults in Judexavier's Metaluna. But thats just my humble opinion. But I like that other link you put up too, they both look good for different reasons.

^I am confused. The Metaluna is a sweet "retro" design by Judexavier (with no "design faults"). I am not sure how you associate it with Mr. Eaves? Irishman didn't mention it. While I like Eaves work, the Metaluna is a design he couldn't come close to.

See below for the 3d model built by Madman1701:

^^ Hey, nice ship I like it.

As for Eaves, since he keeps sticking impulse engines in places where they don't belong and aim them at important pieces of equipment like nacelles or nacelle pylons I keep disliking (some of) his designes..

Mr. Irishman:
I think you're doing a flashback to the NX-01 / Constitution-Class style refit, by John Eaves rather than the Metaluna created by Brad "Judexavier" McClintock. The Metaluna has deflector prongs on all three forward points (nacelles and secondary hull.) Mr. Eaves didn't include those design faults.

No, actually, I was thinking about all those ship designs in artwork that he features in his blog, "eavesdropping".

Once you go through the pages and pages of art he contributed to Trek over the years, there is more similarity than difference. The Enterprise E has much in common with the many alien ships he's designed (very pointy, organic, spiky designs).
