My take on the 1701

This is my -very rough- take on the 1701.

I'm not greatly adept at the 3D software thing, and I've not fully figured out how to use it to make more realistic or better looking models, nor have I even begun to figure out how to do texturing (I'm using AC3D, BTW) but here's my take.

It's an attempt to "modernize" the classic ship without too drasticly changing the overall design.

You at least have made the effort to pick up a 3D package and learn, which is more than most do. Kudos for that, and for knocking out a recognisable Enterprise so early in your 3D career. It kicks my first Trek model right out the park. :) Keep it up.

I think you are off to a good start. I'm not sure what program you are using, but as one beginner to another, I think that you should start experimenting with the hard edges, especially on the back of the nacelles. It should help those rendering errors :)

I'm using AC3D, I;ve still not quite figured out all of the program's abilities on smoothing things out for a more photo-realistic look.

I have no idea about the technical issues of 3D CAD programs, but as far as your design...

Neck and pylons need to be thicker port/starboard. Add some width to the center, and maybe make them bow out a touch to keep the design logic consistent with the other major parts. Angling the pylons back a little might also help.
