My single-reason theory Enterprise didn't last

i never minded the song (though it was an odd choice), I knew it before the show.
If we are going to pick it apart though I really dislike when they changed it later with the acoustic guitar ect...

anyway, who really cares? Its a song and has almost no bearing on the show itself.

Anyone here watch Monk? They had an episode where people were complaining about a popular show changing their theme song and it reminds me of the fixation on "faith of the heart"

I understand why that song, and I think it does a good job of telling us the whole point of the series. BUT still, I hated it. It was too much un-trek, in the same way not having "Star Trek" in the title. This seems to signal right from the beginning that what came before didn't matter. And the first two season basically rejected alot of what we thought we knew about Trek (note that I said it that way---I can't reject ENT from canon just because I dislike what it did with canon).

Anyhow, so that is how I see the theme song as symbolic of why ENT wasn't very good the first two years.

what is trek music anyway tbh?

I get it its not instrumental but its not like TNG, DS9, and Voy were along the same lines as TOS.

TOS was futuristic and weird with the thereminesque vocals and the funny drums ect
and even with the cheesy horns it was very much a different take on a typical TV theme from the time. Its also very upbeat and exciting, but its not like the orchestrated themes from the 80's-90's

then TNG had the movie theme and was a big switch to more of an orchestra theme but still upbeat, had the same intro and feel, ect...

then DS9 and VOY were more different still, with more laid back (some might say bland or at least distant) themes that were slower. I think they were going for more majestic. I actually had to go to youtube to even remember the DS9 theme (despite it being a fantastic show), pretty much horns and strings (or synth strings i dunno?).

the first two had the signature "notes" at the beginning and a monologue

I just dont see what the big deal is.

to me TOS and ENT were great for two different reasons: They both did a good job telling you what the show was about.
TOS was exciting and it gave an impression of weirdness and an alien feeling
ENT is more about exploration (in theory) ect, and I think the song does a good job of explaining that.
Its also supposed to be a more "human" show, with charactors more like people of today than previously shown so a more traditional song kind of fits there too.

the one thing I noticed as a common thread b/t all the themes thats not in ENT is the SWOOSH of the ships as they fly by.

oh and there is just something "nice" about those intro notes in the first two songs, huh?

i cant believe i just did an analysis of all the star trek themes, I suppose this is why people think star trek fans need to get lives ;-)

OK, the theme song...lets look at this from a non-fan eprspective.

When Enterprise first aired in australia, I didn't even know it was on, i was having a good pasrty with my friends whom I also employ when we get a contract for building or what not. The aprties we have is after we finish each contract.
Anywho, we were drinking beers, smoking things over than tobacco and flickign through tv channels as we were starting to wind down.

Well, we found enterprise. None of teh people present were trek fans, but they would give an episode of trek a go for at elast 15 minutes, so they told me to go back to it when i flicked past it cause I hoenstly wasn;t in the mood for trek, new or not...and I'm a fan.

Anywho, on came that opening theme/credits part. These non trek fans, actually really deeply appreciated it and made positive comments about it.

"See, I liek that...gets good message across about what trek's about...not bad, quite clever." was the general comment.

So, do i listen to trek fans about their appreciation of the theme? no, trek fans will always whine and moan, but msot of them will always watch anyway. Trek fans don;t matter, new audiences do.

And from the experience of that night, the openign theme, did its job to entice new veiwers. Thats what matters, not what established trek fans think in my honest opinion.

aw, good catch!
I never think of that series (but ive never seen an episode either :-?)

Bad design. I could never buy their Enterprise as a precursor to Kirk's ship, and as a TOS fanboy that killed the show for me.
