I saw the following video earlier today, where Shatner told a story about the making of the first film; it was actually pretty interesting.

Why don't you just tell us your feelings rather than making us click on your video? You are on a discussion board, after all.
I've done both in the past, but to be honest its often devolved into my having to constantly repeat myself, or defend my views without insulting someone who's purposely attacking me. And its not just here, either; I've had similar issues on many forums. So not long ago, I decided making videos would be an easier alternative, and I try my best to keep them reasonably short so I don't waste anyone's patience.

Then perhaps you shouldn't be on a discussion forum if you constantly feel like you're being attacked?

Just write your thoughts about TOS. People have been attacked for far more than just stating their opinion about a TV show.

That's why I specified it wasn't just one reason. Making a short video is better than having to repeat myself.

You could just post the transcript of the video here. (Edited for brevity and clarity of course.)

I think few of us here are likely to watch a nine minute video just on the off chance we might have something worth adding to the thread.

So, what? You're just going to post videos every time you want to start a topic so that people don't criticize your opinion? That sounds counterproductive to me. If you don't want people challenging your opinion, again I would have to ask why you're even posting on a discussion board. Instead of all this runaround, you could have just posted your thoughts and we could have had a discussion. Because I have no intention of watching your video.

Then with due respect, I think you're lazy. I'm not against productive and respectful discussion, but I'm not going to post my initial views ad infinitum.

You're entitled to your opinion. Good luck with trying to have a non-discussion on a discussion board.
Sue me for trying to make things easier to start with. Having a video about my general views in place means people don't have to keep asking the same questions, and I'm not left with the same response. If anything, it allows for more variety out of the gate.

Member posts videos because he's tired of being attacked and having to defend himself over opinions.

Spends rest of thread being attacked and defending himself over posting videos.

Come on, folks, we're better than this.
Thank you; I'm glad somebody gets what I was trying to do. I honestly did not think it would devolve into chaos, but to paraphrase Wesley Snipes, "Some people are always trying to ice-skate uphill".

It didn’t ’devolve into chaos.’ Get over yourself. You posted a vid, I said why don’t you just post your thoughts instead, you gave an answer that I thought was complete nonsense, and I then ended the dialogue and wished you luck. This is my final post on the subject.

Hey, I am about the least egotistical person you will ever meet. I'm always willing to admit when I'm wrong about something, but your opposition hasn't been about my views, just my methods. Honestly, I think that's a rather pointless debate; either accept that someone doesn't want to write the same thing forever and watch what they posted, or don't and simply quit responding. The fact that I've primarily had to deal with you alone, plus one post each by Tosk and Daddy Todd, tells me you think this is somehow personal...but its not, at least for me.

Well fortunately for some reason I have been unable to see embedded YouTube links on this board since the software upgrade. I think I'm not missing too much, but if you'd care to post a direct link I would watch it.

Nah, he's posted videos before, pretty much from the start. With the same reaction "just write it". Not sure he's ever been "attacked" for an opinion on Star Trek.

You know what would truly be easier for all concerned? Write the stuff down and post it right here -- in the thread -- where everyone can see it.

There are subjects which require a visual medium such as slideshow or video, because there's a visual element to be communicated.

With no visual element, however, video is perhaps the most inefficient and time-wasting medium for communicating verbal content. If you must make videos, then also provide a transcript -- so that your content may be consumed in a small fraction of the time it would take to watch the video of someone doing nothing but talking.

I'm always willing to admit when I'm wrong about something
Except for those times when you choose instead to stubbornly keep repeating the wrong things over and over? Granted.

Well, that’s one good use of AI tools that I can think of; I asked ChatGPT to generate a summary of the video. If anyone feels they like to discuss the “points” being made in the video …
The speaker discusses a YouTube video by actor William Shatner about the history of the first Star Trek film, "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," released in 1979. Shatner reflects on the film's production and its perceived failure, which led to the creation of the successful sequel, "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." The speaker shares their limited experience with the original Star Trek series, which aired from 1966 to 1969, noting that they were born in 1980 and didn't watch the reruns regularly. They express that the original series felt cheesy and non-serious, comparing it to the Mel Brooks spoof "Spaceballs." The speaker mentions their favorite Star Trek films from the original series and discusses the mixed reception of "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," which Shatner directed. They conclude by sharing their introduction to the Star Trek franchise through "The Next Generation" and thank viewers for watching. The phrase "you know" is repeated 24 times throughout the video.
