My PC sounds like the transporter room.

I love that humming sound of the transporter room.

I just realized my pc is humming much like that same sound.

weird.

I have replaced all of the major Windows sounds on my computer with Trek sounds. The Windows turn on sound is now about 20 seconds of the sounds of the bridge. All the Windows beeps have been replaced by Trek beeps. My favorite is emptying the Recycle Bin. That is now the transporter sound effect as the garbage is transported away.

I got them from here.

You are fortunate, though, in that Star Trek sound effects are all over the Internet. Do a search and you'll find site after site of them. I used some TNG files, too. My computer shut-off sound is the sound effect for the big doors on the cargo bay closing.

I got a few from "Star Trek in Sound and Vision" before they had all their problems (bandwidth or legal issues IIRC).

Reminds me that I must update my laptop, I gave my g/f my old PC with all its sound effects like Uhura's "Hailing frequencies open" for Window's start up and Spock's "Live long and prosper" for shutdown. I'll have to take them off with a memory stick and update this machine.

Heh...I have the commercial release of the TOS sound effects CD. But my desktop PC is all NextGen whirs and beeps. When you boot Windows, Majel says "All systems are functioning properly" and when you have it restart there's a Klaxon sound and she says "Warning: system off-line in 30 seconds."

Oh and when you empty the trash it's the whole NextGen "going to warp drive explosion" sound. It's a little silly but fun.

Though generally speaking I don't use many system sounds. It would drive me BONKERS living in a world like that!

When my "Outlook" receives an email, my computer plays the TOS "com whistle" also known as a "Boatswain Whistle".

Neat...but know what'd be cooler?

Screen savers with blinking TOS console lights.

People still use screensavers? I just press the monitor POWER button or close the laptop, personally. ;)

You know what I mean.

Wallpaper. Yes, some people still do. Some folks just don't like turning their monitors off when they log out.

Speaking of TOS sound effects, back in 1995 or 1996 the 17-year cicadas were out in full force - that was a REALLY hot summer - They were flying around and attaching to trees and were really ugly to look at. But I noticed one thing - their collective chatter, when millions of them were present, sounded exactly - and I mean EXACTLY - like a TOS hand phaser.

They have some recorded sounds here. Scroll down to the "Magicicada Septendecim" section and click on the sound links. The sound quality isn't all that great, but you can definitely get the idea.

I have the GNP Crescendo sound f/x CD of old TOS sounds from the beginning of the '90s. Still play it on occasion.
