My opinion of Voyager the series

My opinion of Voyager the show as followed..............
-Voyager, the show was a great concept! A ship and crew alone on the other side of the galaxy was a great idea.

-Voyager had amazing characters like Tuvok, Seven of Nine, Janeway and the Doctor!

-Love or hate the series, you have to admit Voyager had some of the best ever episodes of Star Trek. Examples: "Scorpion", "Year of Hell", "Message in a Bottle", "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy" "Pathfinder" and many, many more.

-Voyager the show over all was a disappointment. Even with the three elements I listed above, the show never had producers or writers who really thought things out, or really cared about what direction the show should go in. No real continuing story, unless you count them week after week trying to get home to Earth. Another problem was Voyager never got damaged for long periods of time, and there was no sacrifice on the part of the crew. The crew was magically able to build not just one but two Delta Flyers, and they seemed to have unlimited Photon torpedoes. Then there was the final episode "Endgame" and we had to go through the first hour or future Janeway getting back to Voyager in the past, just to bring it home a little sooner and on top of that destroy the Borg with some magical torpedoes, and then get the crew home with no real effort, or time for us to see the crew get back to their lives in the Alpha Quadrant. Voyager should have been the greatest Star Trek series ever, but instead it was just moments of greatness and even more what if's.

You do have many valuable points in your comment. There were some things which could have been done better and been better explained, like the amount of shuttles and torpedoes, the Kes-Neelix break-up, the use of some character who could have been used better in order to tell a good story and some obvious flaws which were the result of sloppy and uninspired writing.

Some of these problems actually where not the fault of the writers or producers. In fact Braga wanted the "Year of Hell" episode concept to last an entire season but it was not the producers or writers fault it did not happen but UPN's. UPN did not allow continuing stories like DS9 but wanted anybody to be able to watch an episode with no knowledge of the show. I really think if Voyager had been syndicated like DS9 and TNG instead of on UPN it would have been a much better series!

A full season of "Year of Hell" would have been awesome.

I agree, a full season of Year of Hell would have been great.

Also more supplies running out and having a REAL effect on the crew, as well as the crew being truly devastated when someone dies.

Yes, Paramount who owned UPN wanted a Star Trek show like the original. For the most part an episode based series. The closet they came to having an on going story was in season 4, but once season 5 came along we were totally back to one episode at a time with no story arches. The show would have been much better if it was have had more on going stories, rather then 2 part episodes.

I was always rather annoyed with the choppiness of the interpersonal relationships aboard the ship. Why/how were Kate and Chak's feelings resolved in Resolutions? If anything, it brought up more questions! When/why/how did Chak suddenly think Seven was worth dating? B'elanna loves Tom. What? Wait? When?

That was always a major issue with me.

Eh, it's no more out of place than how Stark and Zhaan randomly hooked up on Farscape. D'Argo and Chiana too. Sometimes a crazy pairing just happens without endless doting on it.

the Kes-Neelix break-up

I assumed Neelix's hyper-intensive jealousy had something to do with it. It was abrupt and unexplained, but at least justifiable.

True, but my point here is that TNG and DS9 have paved the way for more character build up to a relationship rather than *poof* they're together now.

You mean like Troi and Worf? ;)

We could actually see that one coming. I mean, in some universes, he was married to Troi... with children!

I agree but they should have made it more realistic.

As I see it, the break-up could have taken place during two-three episodes in season 2, some time after the events in "Parturition". We could have seen Kes getting more and more annoyed over Neelix's jealousy and over-protection and finally she would have broken up with him. OK, we could have had some episode where they became friends again or so but the relationship should still have been broken up.

I agree. I have always thought that those in charge were bad to describe relationships and relations between people. It was often very stale, constructed and badly built up in many cases.

And that wasn't only in Voyager, it was the same with TNG and DS9.

i guess people will always see what they want to see and not want to see. i've had this discussion with many other voyager fans before and we agree that many of saw the P/T pairing being hinted at as early as the 1st season, then definitely early on in the 3rd season.

as for the C/7 relationship, most of us already know why that came out of nowhere. so there's really no defense for that out-of-nowhere pairing.
