My old computer won't let me turning it on!

That pissed me off to no end! No matter what I tried to getting it back on, but the green light is not there. Sounds like my old computer is dead, but it will cost me lots of money to having it fixed AGAIN! So what should I do about it? I'm starting to thinking about having my old hard drive transferred to new computer. I have lots of story project still in there. I don't want to have it wiped clean. This computer meant a lot to me, because that's my grandfather's final gift to me before his passing on September 11th.

If the LEDs aren't even turning on, it's probably the power supply. Those are pretty easy/cheap to replace.

You should also get a jump drive or an external hard drive to use for backups, so you don't lose your projects if your main computer crashes.

If you can, open the central unit, if the led on the motherboard is off, I'd say it's the power supply. If this led is on, it sounds bad...

What about usb power? It runs on an small standby power circuit that is a lot more reliable than the main power circuit, and is much less likely to fail. If you have an illuminated mouse, it should glow when plugged in, even if the computer is off, but mains connected.

If that doesn't glow, then it might be something obvious like the power switch on the back of the computer, or a duff power lead?
