Okay, I JUST started watching this on the DVR and NBC/Universal chairman Jeff Zucker comes on at the beginning for a season re-cap to catch the viewer up.
He points out that in the LAST episode, Earl gets hit by a car, just like he did in the pilot episode.
Then he says "writers call that...a 'callback'. I call it 'getting paid twice for writing the same thing'."
OH GOD I laughed and laughed at that! It was a total jab AT the writer strike, undoubtedly WRITTEN by someone who participated in the writer strike! Oh, the humor and the irony!
Haven't seen anything beyond the recap yet, but I wanted to applaud both Zucker and the MNIE writers for such a sharp, biting and hilarious line.

Agreed about a "good" episode over an outstanding one, but still...that's better than a lot of shows deliver. And the performance of the "faith healer" kid was EXCELLENT! I love a good juvenile actor performance and this kid came through in a big way.
