Okay, I JUST started watching this on the DVR and NBC/Universal chairman Jeff Zucker comes on at the beginning for a season re-cap to catch the viewer up.

He points out that in the LAST episode, Earl gets hit by a car, just like he did in the pilot episode.

Then he says "writers call that...a 'callback'. I call it 'getting paid twice for writing the same thing'."

OH GOD I laughed and laughed at that! It was a total jab AT the writer strike, undoubtedly WRITTEN by someone who participated in the writer strike! Oh, the humor and the irony!

Haven't seen anything beyond the recap yet, but I wanted to applaud both Zucker and the MNIE writers for such a sharp, biting and hilarious line. :techman: :guffaw:

Just the one? Almost all of it was making fun of the writers. The 17 days thing was particularly nasty.

But yes, it WAS written by 'Earl' writers. It was online last week and a lot of writers got their panties in a twist and complained about it. But I think it's great. It was written by union writers as a spoof of what they think their opponents are actually like behind closed doors.

I'm kind of surprised so many writers took it so poorly when it's really a spoof of the producers!

It was a funny episode but no classic. The 'sitcom' thing didn't really work that well for me, I feel they should have spent more screentime developing it.

Well, like I said...I'd only just started watching when I posted! :) Agreed about a "good" episode over an outstanding one, but still...that's better than a lot of shows deliver. And the performance of the "faith healer" kid was EXCELLENT! I love a good juvenile actor performance and this kid came through in a big way.

Good episode though I find the one hour episodes start off really well and in the middle just drag on and finish strong. I think the first Cops hour long episode is the only one that worked all the way through.

It was a play on irony.

Earl's "real" life w/ his friends is more of a comedy than the sitcom he made up.;)

    That's hot.

I get that the sitcom was supposed to be lame, but I just thought they should have spent more time in it rather than little 30 second flashes.

I liked it. The only part that wasn't working for me was some of the stuff in the ambulance. It was a bit too over-the-top, even for Earl.

I thought Joy looked terrible! Like she'd had a stroke, or was in a car accident, and I know this was rushed into production, but didn't they have time to do the strippers make-up?
