My Monitor Has Rebelled

If they find any fault with the returned monitor that can be attributed to misuse (such as spilling your tea in it), they might not be comfortable replacing it, and might want to charge you for the replacement.

On the other hand, the person you spoke to may not have been asking for your cc# legitimately.

Oh, in that case there shouldn't be an issue. I have taken great care of this monitor, which was why waking up to it doing what it did was such a surprise. HP makes good stuff, so I consider this a fluke. My HP computer is solid, love it, it's a beast of a machine for what it is. I'm just hoping the monitor thing doesn't happen again or I'm going to be extremely cautious in the future when it comes to HP and monitors. Personally, I'm a fan of Sceptre, as every Sceptre monitor I've ever owned has never failed.

They said they would call after I sent back the monitor, so that when they do ask for the CC# I'll get them to clarify it over the phone and record it just to be safe.

It's a trap!

Admiral Ackbar eases the pain. :D

Well, I contacted HP to see what my options are, since it's 4 months old. I bought it as part of a complete set, so I don't know what they'll do. Hopefully, they'll replace it.

In the UK you would just take it back to the shop where you would legally be entitled to a repair or replacement for a year under the Sale Of Goods Act.

Does the law where you are have no such provision? I have also found 3 or 5 year warranties from the manufacturer to be pretty common with monitors as well, are you sure it was only 90 days?

Where I live, I have 15 days to return it to Walmart if something goes wrong. After that, I have to send it to the manufacturer. The warranty on some of the computer's parts is 90 days, others are up to 1 year, but that's limited, and you can still have to pay for repair or replacement.

It really does. I'm thinking Walmart does it like Best Buy, where they take away the manufacturer's warranty or lessen it to some degree.

I feel for you Santa. My 3yo laptop's inverter or backlight (not sure which) died 2 weeks ago. The screen will display images, but it won't light up, so I can only see the screen if I shine a really bright lamp into it. I'll take it in for repair some time next year, because I can't really troubleshoot it myself. It'll probably run me $100 for parts/labor if it's the inverter. $200 if it's the backlight since the BL is a single unit along with the actual LCD panel. Until then, I plugged my old desktop LCD into the VGA port to get it working.

Wow. Yeah, that's a crappy situation itself. I hope you get it sorted out. I'm depending on my little netbook right now, so I can feel the frustration of something like that happening.

Well, after a week they've now made my replacement order.
I just got off the phone with HP support. Apparently, the technician never actually placed the order. This time the level II tech gave me an order number and a shipping date, so that's taken care of. I should get it by January 1st.
