Fleet Captain
Set on the bridge of a new starship class, exploring the galaxy...

The first officer gets a new haircut.

We follow the guy, or woman as he/she decides what sort of haircut they should get, trying out different styles on the holodeck and a good fifteen minutes is devoted to this.

What sort of haircut should they get? Who will fancy them the most? Will the Captain like it? Will it cause tension in the crew, as people will be jealous? Will the Captain be jealous? Will it help the first officer perform his duties better?

The haircut is done. The officer is on the bridge. Who fancies them the most? A list is drawn up, of all the people on the ship who fancy and admire the new haircut. A page is created on 24thC facebook and beamed back to Earth and everybody on earth talks about it.

Oh, and don't forget, the first officer has a drug problem and abusive parents and has done very well, not to punch anybody, for dissing their old haircut and has shown admirable professionalism, considering.

Meanwhile, the ship gets blown up while everybody is talking about this.

??????

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Beehive. The correct answer is always beehive.

Oh, and don't forget, the first officer has a drug problem and abusive parents and has done very well, not to punch anybody, for dissing their old haircut and has shown admirable professionalism, considering.
But does he like pineapples or not?

Meanwhile, the ship gets blown up while everybody is talking about this.
No problem, that was in the Prime U. We're on to bigger and better things.

I think the human problems of haircuts and drugs and abusive parents should be addressed, but not given an entire story arc.

My experience is that, if you dive too deeply into these things, you never get out.

Star Trek characters have these problems, but conquer them and save the universe,.
