Detail tinkering

I find the 23rd century TMP era "Galaxy class" project an interesting one. I like the way how it appears as if they had the ambition but not the technology to pull it off properly!

Any back story to this ship?

Any back story to this ship?

It's based off of a minor bit of "world building" in the novelization of ST III. The Galaxy class at that time was supposed to be a trans-galactic exploration ship the construction of the first of which (the Magellan, if memory serves) ran parallel to that of the Excelsior. Like that class, she was supposed to have transwarp drive.

For my backstory I dropped the idea of trans-galactic capability and simply put her down as a 2nd "proof of concept" class of transwarp-capable starship. The registry number is purely conjectural on my part.

My Galaxy took on the idea originally slated for TNG, only a century earlier and for a lesser duration: 5-7 year deep-space exploration. She dissappeared w/all hands on her shakedown cruise due to a transwarp malfunction (shortly before the events in ST II-IV), and reappeared roughly 90 years later during the Dominion War.

Great concept, I like it.

Reminds me of the TOS Era Ambassador class concept I drew on paper - Starfleet circa 2250 dreaming of large super ships, crew members on board living in greater levels of comfort with their families as it she cruises at high warp into further unknowns.

The Excelsior saucer might look even better on a modified secondary hull--flatter and more elliptical to better match the saucer's progression.

The secondary hull goes well with the two super saucers, but the new saucer looks a little too new for it. Maybe an Ent -C neck would tie it together since the secondary hull on that seems like an extension. Ironically, the Ent-C secondary hull loks like something that comes between a refit and an Excelsior, as opposed to after it. In some ways, the Ent-C is rather more like the TOS ship with the lower sensor and all.

I love the scratch stuff. We need more pylon and nacelle support designs. Imagine a "cranked arrow" wing type of nacelle support.
