My Grandmother Passed Away Tonight

My sincerest condolences, SJ. The previous posters expressed it all so well that I can't add anything but: if you feel down and need a hug or someone to cheer you up, please PM me any time.

My condolences.

Both of my grandfathers and one of grandmothers passed away, so I can relate to you and the way you feel. My last surviving grandmother had a stroke about 8 weeks ago and never totally recovered. While she regained full speech, she can't walk on her own anymore and is quite misereable because of that. In a way I think it's better to leave this world quickly. I am sure your grandmother is at peace at last.

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers all. :)

I found out that it was her wishes to be cremated and she didn't want a service. I'm a little bummed that there will be no service because it would have been a way to share memories and reunite with people who I haven't seen in years. Of course it was her wish and that's the most important thing.

I'm feeling better today than I did yesterday and the night I found out. It's still sad, but I'm finding it easier to move on now and I think part of that was I was able to spend some time with her that morning. I think it was a sense of closure and knowing that the end was near. She was a wonderful woman, and I will miss her, but life must go on. Remember the good times, and cherish those moments always.

^ Give yourself some space and time to be sad, too. Grieving - weeping uncontrollably, even - is a perfectly acceptable thing to do ... even days, weeks, sometimes months later. Allowing it to happen - without dwelling on it, of course - can be a good way to process what you're feeling.

In any case, my utmost condolences. Be well.

I am sorry for your loss. It must mean even more that you got to see her on her last day as she did not wish for a memorial service.
