my GODZILLA fix...

Yeah..I love the big guy. I have all, well most of, his movies. From the first one, to Megalon, to TOKYO SOS and so on...I have them all....I like GODZILLA so much that I can convince my self that even GODZILLA vs MEGALON is a good movie (just like NEMESIS fans do for that dreadful movie)

So...you ZILLA fans...not including the first one (1954) what are your top three GODZILLA movies..in no certain order...here are mine..

Monser Zero (Godzilla and Rodan go to planet x and meet DEVO)

Destroy all Monsters (the 'all star' game of its day)

Godzilla vs Ghidora (in the later series when the time travelers are actually bad and have come back to the past to create Ghidora to destroy japan)

So..those are mine with honorable mention for Ghidora the Three Headed Monster (first Godzilla/Rodan crossover) and the whacked out GODZILLA vs THE SMOG MONSTER)

Up from the depths, 30 stories high, breathing fire, his head in the sky, GODZILLA! GODZILLA! (and godzookie)

Gojira
Godzilla 2000
Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla

Man, if ever a premise was ruined so quickly and painfully. I remember seeing tat for the first time on cartoon network when I was six or seven. Godzilla was stomping around, breathing flames whille that absoulutely badass music played and everyone looked on in horror......and then all my hopes were crushed as goofy circus music played and godzookie tumbled across the screen, making bonking noises the whole way.

Of course it's hilarious now, it's almost a deliberate parody. personally, I keep my saturday morning tv violent and un-pc with Jonny Quest

Back on topic, I haven't watched a Godzilla movie in ages, but remember liking hem a lot. I thought Mechagodzilla was cool, and of the course the original is classic. THey kind've blend together for me, but those two I remember pretty distinctly.

1. Godzilla '54
2. Godzilla vs. King Ghidora
3. Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

GODZILLA!

AG, who shoulda walked out of Godzilla 1985 when the Bambi vs Godzilla pre-show was over. :)

Star Trek has put about a bunch of 'follys' too...NEMESIS and INSURRECTION come to mind...at least you KNOW what you're going to get with a GODZILLA movie..

I highly, highly recommend Godzilla GMK (or Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah - Giant Monster All-Out Attack) from 2002. It's not just a good monster movie, but a damn good movie period. It's well shot, the way the monsters are photographed implies this weight & power that I rarely get from the films, the music by Koh Otani is fantastic and I actually have the soundtrack on my iPod, and Godzilla himself...is just an incredible force of nature in this film, a nasty brute that takes pleasure in hurting the other monsters he battles in this film. Fantastic film, check it out if you have even a passing interest in the King of all Monsters.

I also enjoy Godzilla vs. Smog Monster on an entirely different level, it's a pretty goddamn hokey movie but god damn do I just chuckle my way through that movie.

And after that, I'd probably say Godzilla vs. Megalon or Godzilla vs. Gigan.

I think I like ALL MONSTERS ATTACK, but maybe not...one of those later ones had BAD CGI versions of the monsters and Godzilla had black pupils...if thats the one, then no, I didn't like it because of those reasons....

For the bad CGI, you may be thinking of Final Wars. GMK is the one where his pupils were an eery Resident Evil-white.

For me :

1 - Gojira 54
2- GMK
3- DaM
4 - Any MechaG movie
5 - KK vs G, both versions
6 - Gojira's Counterattack (2nd B&W film, Japanese version)
7 - G 84/85
8 - G/Destroyah

Godzilla Vs. Mothra (1964)
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Godzilla Vs. The Smog Monster ([whacky 70's music]Save the Earth!/Save The Earth!/SAVE THE EEEAAARRRTH![/whacky 70's music])

The cartoon with Godzooky in it was made by the same people who gave us Jonny Quest, and I saw it in first runs on NBC and liked it, so you haters can think what you like.

Other honorable mentions:

Marvel Comics' GODZILLA (The first comic I ever bought. It had the Fantastic Four as guest stars, and that started my love affair with those heroes)

AMERICAN GODZILLA (I can see the hate for this is still out there. Don't care. It gave me the movie I expected from Hollywood, not just another installment of the guys-in-rubber-suits death match.)

I have that Godzilla/Marvel comic too...

Although I do like Godzilla vs Mothra (or Godzilla vs the Thing) I didn't like how he LOST to those two worms...c'mon. I think he fired his superbreath one time, if that...but it did set up VS SEAMONSTER--GHIDORA THE THREE HEADED MONSTER--MONSTER ZERO and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS...

Well think about it. In the early days Big G was still kinda the bad guy, and in that movie, Mothra was cute and had the cute six-inch-tall singing princesses for friends, so it had to win.

The American rights to Biollante are owned by whatever entity now owns HBO Pictures. They have announced no plans for a DVD, so we may have to wait for the rights to revert to Toho. Same for Megalon and 1984/85. Additionally, a dispute over Kong means that the Japanese versions of Vs. and Escapes may basically never get here. Besides those, DaM, vs. Ghidorah 91, vs. Mothra 92, MG 93, Space G, Destroyah and G2K have yet to be released on dual-language discs.

There is an alternate dub of DaM featuring the voice talents of Hal Linden and some dude named Takei, who doesn't sound Japanese at all. :D
