Discussion on perfect scores

I have been putting up reviews on gamespot for a while but now I started with my debut blog on the topic of Perfect 10 scores. I have never done a blog before so I can only hope they will improve over time. Hopefully you will enjoy them, I don't have any real great talent when it comes to writing though I do try my best so excuse any grammer issues, I do try to keep them down to a minimum.

hopefully people will read my annoying rants as I would like to do more

A 10/10 score doesn't automatically mean that a game is perfect. Eurogamer review on one ten-point scale and hand out a few 10s every year, most recently Braid. A quick glance at their scoring policy outlines their definition of a ten, and it sounds quite logical to me.

Here's a quick excerpt:

Let us make absolutely clear that a 10 is not and probably never will be "the perfect game". There's always something criticisable about a game, however small.

A 10 will inspire the reviewer because it gets so many things correct. It will be something truly groundbreaking and aesthetically successful, be consistently enjoyable, get the balance right in difficulty terms, be technically very impressive, and be polished to a shine. It will leave the player in no doubt that they're playing something special right from the word go and will continue to inspire and amaze throughout. As we've said, this doesn't mean it's perfect, and we'll be sure to say where it goes wrong too, but maybe those niggles are just so minor that you can let it off. Look at anything under a microscope for long enough and you'll see the flaws. But would you kick a supermodel out of bed for farting?

I'll go with that.


Also, you probably don't want to advertise your blog in Gen Tv & Media. Pretty soon it's going to get shifted to Web Sites & Design, where nobody will read it. If I were you I'd reword your post into a discussion on perfect scores in games

^ I can only edit my post title within the thread not outside, a little annoying. I know some websites says 10 out of 10 does not mean perfect but in the blog I talk mainly how Gamespot has the sub title perfect next to the score of 10 and in reality full marks means perfect normally.

I was just thinking however that a letter system is probably better because normally people think of A+ or A* as the top mark lets say in a exam however it does not mean perfect but that you achieved the top bracket in terms of grading. So maybe letter systems are theb est way around grading games ?
