"$#*! My Dad Says"

The new 20 second promo for episode 5 is up at cbs.com now.

The promo at least features the older half-brother and his wife. Wonder if they are going to be the focus of Ed's mistimed comments as opposed to Henry this week? It would be a slight change.

Also, it seems they are at a produce stand. An appropriate place to find Ed and yet again a new location where action can happen. Glad to see that so early they have gotten out of the house. One of my early concerns was being stuck mainly at the house.

$#*! My Dad Says saw another increase in viewers last night, two eps in a row now, from 10.1 to 10.9 million. The demo was a marginal shift from 3.2 last week to 3.1 this week.

Jax prediced an announcement of full season pickup in about a week or so. This weeks bode well once again I think for $#*! getting picked up.

I finally tried watching it yesterday. It's decent. The reversal where Ed realizes that the other Ed wasn't supposed to be gay yet continues with the gay ruse anyway was pretty good.

But WTF is up with these CBS sitcom audiences? None of the jokes are funny enough to be deserving that much laughter. And it seems like they're mixing the laughs to be far louder compared to the rest of the program than your usual sitcom audience laughter.

Another episode and another uptick in ratings and quality, I am really enjoying the show now. The show socred its highest ratings since its debut but I still feel its not the right partner for TBBT.

After a shaky start (the pilot was stitled and forced and not that great, and this was after the original son and reshot it) I am enjoying the show and finding it's getting better and better each episode.

I am noticing that William Shatner and gay people is a lot funnier than William Shatner and his two lame sons. Clearly the producers of this show noticed since it's sort of been turned into a recurring theme. I don't mind but I do think they need to find some other avenues of making him funny lest the jokes wear out. This isn't Will and Grace (Bill and Grace?). Having said that, I do hope we see more of the 'maid'.

In their defense the sons I think have gotten slightly more palatable with progressive episodes, but Shatner is still by and large the main draw.

The sons are lame. I think the show would be funnier if Shatner was teamed up with another "cranky old man" or perhaps a more tempered old man. So we can either have a "Grumpy Old Men" trope or a "Odd Couple" trope.

More awesome? Make the other old man played by Patrick Stewart.

You know, Shatner really hasn't sold me on this role, as much as I am a fan of his. I don't think he plays the sharp as a tack angry old man. Now Ed Asner.... he'd have been perfect.

Problem is, even though he hasn't quite nailed it, he's still far and away the best thing about the show. Everybody else is extremely awkward.

This most recent episode was the funniest yet, the writers seem to be figuring out what do with Shatner now, but not with anyone else.

I wouldn't shed a tear if they got rid of the other son and his wife.. while i liked her in King of Queens this show just haven't had anything funny for her and her husband and they are taking the show down each time it focuses on them.

Shatner gets better by the episode and the "main" son is getting there too.. for me it's no breakout series but i don't mind the 22 minutes it takes to watch an episode.

New neighbor for several episopdes...that would be great :techman:
I think that should the show get several season that a Trek, heck even BLegal cameo with Spader, is bound to happen.

What if instead of a neighbor, who one might wonder never appears as often afterward, Stewart were another Naval medical doctor? Then perhaps there could be nods to the fourth wall. Perhaps Stewart was the doctor who took over after Ed was reassigned or something. Ed makes cracks like "you thought you could replace me" and such. Make them adversarial Naval officers who meet at maybe a Naval reunion event.

Despite the show getting picked up for a full season its no time to rest on our laurels. Want to remind everyone another new episode airs tomorrow night(10/28). Here is the 20 second promo for the episode.

Has CBS cancelled ANY of its sitcoms after a season or less? I don't recall any that got the axe but that could be because those shows were so bad they don't exist in my world. :)

CBS has to be looking for suitable replacements for Two and a Half Men right about now considering Charlie Sheen's off-screen issues. Given that, they might give Shat more of a chance than it would otherwise get on a non-CW/NBC network. In that case, I could see the show doing a slow ramp up like The Big Bang Theory in that its audience actually increases over time instead of the other way around for most shows.

CBS axed Worst Week (2008/2009) and Accidentally on Purpose (2009/2010) after one season. Infact the writers strike actually helped TBBT, which had a worrying drop in ratings towards the last few episodes of its debut season but CBS had very little in viable pilots to replace it with.

I've heard of only two of those, one of which (Love Monkey) most definitely wasn't a sitcom.
