"$#*! My Dad Says"

The promo for episode 2 is up on YouTube.

^^ That's the episode they were taping when I went to the studio taping.

Essentially if a joke was poorly received by us (the live studio audience), the EPs would scamper on to set and have a quick pow-wow with the actors and then they'd re-do the scene with a different joke or punchline.

I quite enjoyed the experience. I'd never been to a sitcom taping, and there was a definite energy on stage that I hope will transfer to the episode when I see it tonight. I didn't see last week's episode as I was on a date but from what I recall, tonight's episode will be good.

Pretty much what I said above, sit-coms take time to find their rhythm. The first episodes of Seinfeld, Cheers, Fraiser, M*A*S*H or Friends are hardly greatly indicative what the show would achieve in terms of comedy and those are all fairly highly regarded sit-coms decades after they left first-run. Seriously, watch the first episode of Seinfeld sometime and then watch pretty-much any episode from the seventh season there's almost no connection and two very different tones.

So judging this show on the pilot probably isn't greatly fair to it if it's to become a successful comedy. I think there's some potential here but the show needs to realize it, exploit it and even let it's balls-drop and decide what it wants to be about and maybe allow the dad to say some more radical, Archie Bunkerian, things.

Doubleoh is speaking from the future!

Do we having flying cars yet?
What are this week's Powerball numbers?
Will I meet my soulmate?
Tell us!

1) No. Still too many bad drivers out there.

2) 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42.

3) Yes. But it's OmahaStar.

OMG, the look on Shatner's face when the son was eating the pasta. :guffaw: I know I'm about a minority of one on this, but I sure hope this show survives. It literally makes me

I thought there was much more consistency in this episode.

The only part(s) I think that didn't work for 95% of the time were the married son/wife team this time. The aforementioned ending with him chowing on the food to set up Ed's joke about "remember this moment" and him cushioning the fall off the roof.

The vegetable jokes I thought all worked, some funnier than others but worked.

Anyone catch the part where Henry asks Ed some things he likes(to search the 'net) and "horses" is one of those things? We all know Shatner loves horses, trains them and competes with them. He and/or writers tossing some Shat into Ed early it seems.

Hope it maintained some decent #'s again, stay above 10.5 million at least.

Waiting patiently and optimistically for some good numbers from last night. I expect some drop off, just hoping its reasonable. I think this show has promise.

Noticed on the IMDB page that the actor who played the gay DMV technician is listed for 2 episodes. Wonder how he is going to be worked back in again so soon? Unless, they are counting the unaired first pilot as an episode as well, his scenes are in both pilot versions.

Well I probably get flamed for this but whatever. Last night I actually think I literally LOL'd at Shatner's show more than I did the Big Bang Theory. But again, I realized I'm in a minority on that. I'm waiting for the numbers, but I'm betting on a huge drop as the word of mouth on this show is pretty bad.

A co-worker told me that he thinks Mike and Molly is better than $#*! My Dad Says, and while I don't mind M&M, to me there's no comparison. Makes me wonder what's wrong with my 'humor detector." :wtf:

Believe it or not, I agree with you. IMO this week's BBT simply wasn't very good, and I'd argue the worst episode in the series so far. Again, the Shat ruled his new show and the guy playing the son felt a lot more natural (even if he seemed to be channeling Josh Radnor from HIMYM) as opposed to reading cue cards like in the pilot.

I only watched the pilot, but based on that Mike & Molly was absolutely unwatchable. I'll tune in for summer reruns if it's gotten better (given that my DVR is already loaded on Mondays), but I wasn't sold after the pilot.

I thought their line delivery was almost exactly the same in the pilot. I haven't seen the second episode yet.

I've been stalking Zap2It.com all morning.
They called the drop 'significant' for $#*! My Dad Says and Outsourced but note nearly everything dropped.

Ratings cooled across the board Thursday, with pretty much every show -- new and old -- on the schedule giving back some of its premiere-week numbers.

Like last week, though, CBS ended the night on top, with "The Big Bang Theory" and "The Mentalist" leading the way. New comedies "$#*! My Dad Says" and "Outsourced" both fell significantly, as did ABC's drama "My Generation."

$#*! had a debut number of 12.5 million viewers and the second episode dropped to 10.4 million. I think the demo still looks good though, I'll await someone else like Jax in the ratings thread he'll likely create to discuss.

I knew it would drop and I had called for 10.5 so my personal predict was right on the money. I just hope that this drop represents the biggest one and we'll start to see a more gradual stabilization.

I consider a drop to 10.5 not that bad, (but who knows how CBS views it) and I'm surprised it stayed that high. I honestly was expecting much worse.

Just watched the 2nd episode and it was better than the first though am not convinced by the older brother, he needs re tooling or recasting to be honest. As for the ratings, the show is still in the safe zone.

The drop from 12-million to 10-million doesn't sound too bad at all, infact it sounds like nothing more than a drop off from "people who didn't like it" to "people willing to give another chance." All new shows are going to see a drop-off between a premiere episode and the second one. 10m is still a good number and a number that's high enough to mean the show is worth keeping around.

CBS comedies can afford to drop to around 8 million because they score in the 18-49 demo much easier than the other CBS shows who can get similar or lower demos with several million more viewers.

Leading out of TBBT may put a little more pressure on Shanter and co but worst comes to worst it gets put on monday nights.

Way better than the pilot episode but still not in the same ballpark as How i met your mother or Big Bang Theory.

I thought the scene with the internet tech guy was hilarious, some of the vegetable jokes were funny and the overall chemistry between dad and son was nicely established.

What dragged the episode down was the other son and his wife.. that subplot was just annoying and had a very unfunny conclusion. I hope they utilize them better (the fart joke with his younger brother was quite funny though) or do away with them and try to find some other supporting actors that work better.. maybe an old army buddy or someone else.

I'll continue to watch but the show still needs to improve to provide constant entertainment.. right now it's hit or miss but to be fair it's only the second episode.

^^^
I've said something similar about another character, especially one who can relate to Ed in a non shocking way. I get that Henry is the 'straight man' in the routine but a generational equal to Ed as a 'wingman' would likely help.

Curious to see what, if any, type ad promo CBS shows for $#*! My Dad Says today during football. Last week it was "Shatner is Americas new favorite dad" and "The #1 new comedy". Despite its drop it's still high ranked, did it outscore any other new comedy, can they say that again?
