"$#*! My Dad Says"

They should have gone the South Park route and had bleeped out cursing instead of toning the language down.

Great concept, really bad execution. You can bet that CBS is going to water it down to the point where it will retain nothing that was funny about the twitter feed. Jerry Stiller would have been a better choice than Shatner.

Agreed it would be nice to see this on a premium cable outlet so it could retain the necessary language and attitude that makes the Twitter feed a hit. Still, shocking, rude and mistimed lines are still funny even without the profanity. It does enhance some moments for sure but overall I think it keeps the spirit of the source.

Jerry Stiller could possibly be a good choice but he clearly doesn't have the marquee value that Shatner brings to it. Maybe the only reason it got picked up.

Yahoo! TV has a new promo that features the new son. At least this clip matches IMDB's listing. I had heard they changed the casting of the son but thought when Trekker posted this thread the promo in his OP was the new son. Seems not.

The same joke about the sons haircut making him look like a lesbian in the Navy is in this new clip as well.

So after looking at the new son anyone have a preference just based on the clips? Also, anyone know what caused the turnover for that role?

I'll be there tomorrow night?
Trekker you doing a discussion thread?

Would it have killed them to have gone with Shat My Dad Says?

Twit my Dad Says? I think you have the winner.

If CBS was going to go this route though they should actually bleep the announcer every time he says the title. Literally saying "Bleep My Dad Says" sounds really stupid.

I'll probably keep this one bumped, I dunno. Might do a discussion thread, but not sure a consistant one would be needed for a half-hour sitcom. This thread may serve nicely to discuss the show.

I have to say that the promo looks terrible. Canned laughter along with Shatner seeming out of breath with ever sentence? No, thanks.

^^^
That's not out of breath its pause for dramatic/comedic affect. Something he's done his whole career.

Show starts tonight on CBS following The Big Bang Theory. Its an hour block starting at 8/7 central. I think pairing it up with TBBT is a good move. Gives the show a good lead in + the indirect link between them is obvious.

There's a certain Mr. Roper-ness quality to Shatner in this role which I find endearing.

I went to a taping of one of the episodes (perhaps even this one airing tonight) a few weeks ago, and I was quite entertained. Looking forward to seeing more.

This show's odd title isn't working to well with some cable/satellite program guides. The guide on the system I'm using is rejecting the non-alpha/non-number characters in the aphabetized program listings (that allow subscribers to locate future airings) and search the schedule for the program by title.

All you'd have to do is scroll through to the day its on, select it then subscribe to it. It may not be the easiest way to find a show but its not that hard to find it if you wanted to do so.

William Shatner is the best thing about this show so far. Which is sort-of like finding a wedding band you accidentally swallowed in your shit, but still....

You develop a real sense of "Dad" from the Twitter page that for me just doesn't match how Shatner is delivering this which seems to be "Priceline Negotiator".

TBBT wasn't on its game tonight either, though. Hopefully it's freshman episode blues.

Second commercial break, I'm done with it. That...was...excruciating.

Yeah, it wasn't too good. The Shat was good. But everything else... it just felt like I was watching a sitcom (if that makes any sense.) I find the best sitcoms make me forget that I'm watching a sitcom. This, on the other hand, is formulaic crap.

I thought The Big Bang Theory was hysterical tonight.

This, though...ugh. The "joke" where he goes to the door and closes it right away saying the raccoon is out there sealed it for me. James Burrows should be directing better than that, regardless of bad acting. Dude didn't have enough time to see anything, didn't even look down...he just did what he read in the script. Terrible.

I don't even think Shatner did well. I've seen less cue card reading on SNL.

Yeah, it was ugly. Shat was good, but oy! The rest of the cast isn't great and the tone and rhythm of the show just isn't there. I may give it another chance to see if it shakes any "Pilot Oddities." (The pilot for Seinfeld, for example, isn't a great way to judge the whole series.)

I sort-of liked the interior decoration of the main house set and the exterior establishing shot of the house. Looks very "old manish/house I grew up in."
