"$#*! My Dad Says"

This is a new sitcom that's coming out this fall that's been getting some interesting press. One of the more notable ones are "Christian Groups" and family activists getting their underwear in a knot over the "explitive" in the show's title.

One of these parental groups even sent letters to potential advertisers for the show telling them not to sponsor it because it uses an expletive in the title. (And the letter even uses the real expletive.) The show's title simply uses the standard set of "curse symbols" and the show is called "Bleep My Dad Says" by promos. The content of the show isn't reported to contain any off-color language or content. It's supposed to be a "modern day Archie Bunker" of a cantakerous, closed minded, father and his relationship with his family.

To me? The show looks good and like one I'll check out. It also stars William Shatner as the cantakerous father. That alone makes it a must-watch.

Couldn't finish the promo.

The show seems AWFULLY toothless. It's not particularly edgy...it's very bland Archie Bunker. Very very bland.

Especially for something that is supposed to be called Shit My Father Says, then there should be some shit...not bland attempts.

I think I'll pass.

the Shat has failed. (But come on, he's played a legendary character and has had two other successful shows, you can't win them all.)

I agree with Trekker4747 here I think it looks good. I've been waiting to see some promos on this and I enjoyed what I saw there.

"A bike? Does it look like Bangkok out there to you?"
"It's clean enough, sit down, stop cleaning. We had dinner we didn't accidently kill a hooker."

Yes, Captain Kirk is Legendary and T.J. Hooker is something of cult character hit and Denny Craine won him an emmy but I think this show will add to his Legacy just a bit more...and in a positive way.

Those two lines had me laughing the most. I am, however, hoping that the promos have selected the "least offensive" or "most neutral" lines they can to use in the promos and that they'll start of "light" with the character, get people used to it, and then crank up his crotchetiness.

But his lines a demeanor in the promo have me chuckling and, really, it strikes me as a role only Shatner can play. If the series makes it I doubt Shatner will reach the same levels Archie Bunker did but I think it could be a decent modern-day equivalent.

This show seems it will parallel The Big Bang Theory in a way. In that manner that every character in TBBT mostly plays off of how Sheldon will respond/react to what is going to be asked or done. The showrunner may not have intended it to go that way but after 3yrs that is the dynamic.

Just off that promo it seems everyone interacting around Shat's 'Dad' will be doing a similar thing.

I've not added a new show yet and half hour comedies are ligth watching so I will give this a shot. Some old style humor is never a bad thing :p

I find the actual twitter feed it's based off of to be HILARIOUS. The last one:

"Put the rake down. I don't wanna sit around watching you 'give it your best.' Either stop sucking or get the fuck out of the way."

That promo looks horrible. I will give it a shot though because I love the twitter feed plus I have to give the Shat a shot.

I'll give it a shot, too...but that promo did look incredibly unfunny.

The only time I laughed was at Shatner's delivery on the Bangkok line. Other than that, I could hear crickets chirping. I can't even figure out why anyone would think that first line deserves a laugh track. That was a joke? He said; "Why not?"

Give it a shot but i'm not expecting much because that show is on the wrong channel.

It needs to be on a channel where you are allowed to say Shit, Fuck etc and that means HBO or any other cable station.

It is embarassing to call a show Shit my dad says and then bleep out the "shit".

Wait and see.

I agree. This show would be better off on FX, and paired with It's Always Sunny... :)

DeVito's character on that show makes "Twitter Dad" look like a saint.

I plan to give it a shot, just for the Shat Factor, but I'm expecting this to be one of the first new series cancelled. I give it two months. The promo looks just awful...

I saw the pilot episode last month in Vegas at a consumer testing thing. It was pretty funny. Not an instant classic, but a lot of potential. There were a few genuinely funny moments. The rest was fun to watch. Will it live up to that potential? Time will tell. The cast seems pretty good, and people I'd like to spend time with each week. Shatner has always had a good sense of humor (the type that often got him in trouble) so hopefully this will develop and grow and survive a few years.

Bingo.
