Thanks for fixing it so the pics show up... not sure how to do it... tried
and [image][/image] but neither seemed to work for me.

You need to have a certain amount of posts before you can use images. It helps prevent vandalism.

The darker look is just the lighting being out in space vs. the full (and unrealistic) studio lights used when filming. If I put it under full lighs it appears lighter.

Also, FYI this is not the pilot version from most of the stock footage, but the 3rd incantation and based on actual measurements of the studio model and photos of it at retirement and shortly thereafter before the NASM changed a few things.

The day version in the sim looks more like what you are expecting (because it's day), but I won't attempt to post a pic, since I can't.

I love what you've done. Very cool! Must have been a ton of work.

Go ahead and post the other shots, please. One of the old-timers will follow up and make it visible. We'd love to see them.

Can't get enough of that old ship. Beautiful design.

Joe, appreciative

You have a good start here, but these images would be immensely improved with a couple of additional light sources to provide some self-shadowing and highlighting of various features. Right now your light levels are waaaaaaaaaaay too dark and completely flat--no shadows at all.

What Joe said. Also, you might want to post these pics over in Trek Art, where you'll be sure to get a lot of appreciation and constructive criticism.

Maybe a little more appreciation here and a little more criticism there (why does Trek Art bring out the 12 year old in some people?), but yes, post your next batch over at Trek Art, Waugh.

Nice work, BTW. Keep it up. :)

I think it looks good, but the Professor has some good ideas about lighting.
What software did you use for the modeling/rendering?

I used 3DSMax.

Yes, I'll take another look at the color, unfortunately, the color is also thrown by the fact that the grey of the hull picks up the blue from the blue screen, and is lite differently in different shots.

But, now that I have the actual original hull color, I'll see what I can do by using some caustic tricks.

I made a very cool 13 Meg avi animation, and have uploaded it here: http://www.benchmark-avionics.com/video/Flyby.avi

When I get done a couple of things, I'll see about posting a link to some shots or perhaps putting up some more on the art forum as suggested.

Here's a short video (13 megs) I made

Yeah--I just got warned for calling a spade a spade in regards to a nasty p*ssing contest brewing in a thread (I deserved it but still...). Still, most people there are cool and kind.

I myself cannot draw or paint and have no ability with a computer beyond typing and viewing dirty pictures. I slapped together a few AMT models when I was 20 (1990), as a form of therapy after my father died, but haven't really touched a tube of Testors cement since. I go there for a stroll through the gallery, as it were.

Thanks for letting me know about the software. I have looked at an online 3D tutorial for modeling. Have to seen it or used it? I will look at the movie after this weeks TOS-R episode.
